    Marlin 795 issue

I have a 2 month old Marlin 795 that i have put probably 2000+ rounds through and cleaned 3x. There is a thumb tab that allows the bolt to go forward . After a couple of hundred rounds it seems to stop working and "floats" not contacting anything and the bolt will not go forward . When I take it apart and clean it it works again. Am I doing something wrong when i put it back together ?

I have had the same issue. Apparently it's a feature. Pulling the charging handle back and slightly outward should reengage the bolt release lever (the thumb tab).
    Check this out.

    Specifically:

It sounds like it went in the lock out position.Mine has the auto stay open and a manual lock back position. When its in the lock out position just pull the charging handle back and to the right. This will release it to the auto open position. Then just hit the release. Its a safety

As alluded above, you can manually lock back the bolt by pushing in the charging handle when the bolt is to the rear. This does disable the bolt release. If you look inside the receiver when it's dissambled, you'll see the divot for the charging handle.

        Locking bolt

thanks I will try pulling the charging handle to the right ( inside towards the receiver) when this happens again. Or is it out to the left, away from the receiver it has to go ?

Did that once at the range. Couldn't figure out how the heck I did it. Discovered how to resolve it after I got home. Geez.

Thanks everybody. Stopped me from sending back a warranty for nothing.

I wonder how many people have sold or returned their 795 for this issue... and how many LGS employees accepted them...

Had an employee at Turners tell me that they had one on the shelf that they had to send back because it was broken like this. Asked to see one and showed him to replicate and fix the "problem"

The Marlin 60/795 LSHO lever is a "newer" design element. The peg and notch manual bolt hold open was the original design. As many of you have figured out the two systems don't work hand in hand.

This is a poor design by Marlin. If this many customers are having the same problem, and the "fix" is neither intuitive nor well-documented by the company, then the company has the problem, not the public.

by turning it on its left side on the bench during target check time ( to show the range officer the bolt was open ) . This makes sense since the bolt was back and open at the time.
