What's a decent rim fire reflex optic? SECOND UPDATE, FF3 is mounted!

I have a 22/45 that is very accurate, and just got a Nelson custom conversion for my 1911.

My eyes blow. Looking to maybe get a small optic to see what that does for my groups.

Brands and models please? What's a decent optic go for?

It really depends on your budget. Specify that and then go from there.

I went with a Burris Fastfire III on my Ruger Mk III and have been quite happy with it. I think I paid around $225 for it (w/ Rail mount). After a while, I purchased a base mount specifically for the Ruger ~$45), which gives it a lower profile and a much cleaner look.

With this setup, it's been a great squirrel gun and quite accurate.

Well, I see units ranging from $30, which sounds like a useless exercise, up to $500+ for Leupold units.

I've never used a red dot other than my Eotech on a rifle.

Looking for something between those two numbers, I guess.

Not exactly. Op in that case had a budget of $50. I do not operate under that restriction, and said so.

There were several higher priced units discussed if spending more than "necessary" is the goal.

I was piqued by the Kinetic Concealment unit but couldn't find much info on it and that page on the KC website didn't load for me.

Best bang for the buck currently is the Bushnell TRS-25 & the Burris Fast Fire III.

The Bushnell is sub $75.00 and has a 3.5 MOA dot.


The Burris FFIII is sub $225.00 and can be had with a 3 or 8 MOA dot.


Both come with a Picatinny mounts (unless you buy the Burris bare).

You will need to figure out a mounting solution for the Nelson (RMR cut slide or add a rail) for either Red Dot.

I was running the Bushnell on my Steel Challenge pistol and LOVED it. As my skills increased I found the 3.5 MOA dot size too small for crazy fast shooting, which Steel Challenge demands.

This is when I went looking for something with a larger MOA dot. After looking at all the offerings on the market today I went with the Burris FFIII with the 8 MOA dot. The 8 MOA dot is amazingly fast to acquire and I look forward to my times dropping. These run $210.00 delivered.

I was really close to choosing a C-More (6.0 MOA) but felt they were a little large for my tastes and put the dot too high over the bore. They are also amazing RD's, everyone uses them at Steel Challenge. It was around the $275.00 price point.


I don't think you could go wrong with any of these sights.

I just went to the range recently and put down another 250 rnds. It's still holding zero after about 3000 rounds (Walther MP5 licensed by HK).

I'm very happy given the price I paid for it and I like the fact that there's no obnoxious branding on it. Definitely a decent rimfire reflex optic, that's for sure. Please note that I haven't deliberately dropped it on purpose, put it through a torture test, etc. But I haven't done that on my Aimpoint Micro which is mounted to my BCM AR-15. I'll let others make a youtube vid on that.

I picked up a FF3, Burris, and am picking it up tonight.

I know my options are the factory rail or the rear sight dovetail.

Anyone use both, or have a strong preference or dislike on either?
