Walther MP5 Chamber Concerns

I was just checking out and doing the initial field strip for my hk and noticed a cut or a possible crack where the extractor pin sits on the barrel side of the gun when the bolt is forward. For those of you with this gun can you guys check if you have the same cut/crack?

You say initial field strip, is this a brand new gun? That doesn't look normal or by design to me.

If it has a lot of rounds through, be sure your extractor is moving freely, and also I would keep a little grease on that beveled surface in that extractor claw pocket.

If your extractor is jammed with crud and fouling, and not moving freely, then I see how this could happen.

Correct, Its brand new.

The extractor does move freely, The weird thing is the cut seems to be some what uniformed.

Does this look like something to be worried about and I shouldnt fire the gun this weekend?

I don't think you should worry about shooting it, but I'd wait for other owners of this rifle to chime in before deciding if this is normal or if it needs to go back. If there is any way you can take a look at another new one in the store to see if it looks the same, might be worth a short drive.

Looks like a crack to me. Mine does not have it, but the gun was recently sent back and all internal parts replaced including barrel. After about 3k rounds all sorts of issues and parts failure. The gun is fun for the first 500 rounds and then it becomes a complete POS. If you keep it I hope you like to tinker.

Mine is NIB and has a depression in the same place, but without the crack/cut.

Definitely not my experience, but it is a shame that there is such a variance in build quality. I've read that the new 10/22s are in the same boat. Seems like the way to go would be to buy a used one that has been taken care of.

I stated on the other thread that I have over 2500 rounds on mine and aside from a couple of FTF (all from Winchester WB), I've not run into any issues. I strictly follow the mfg' recommendation for field stripping:

They basically replaced the whole gun except for the two halves of the receiver. Didn't charge me anything. Several times before sending the gun back I called for parts that were breaking ,they sent them free of charge. Saved a lot of time sending the gun back and fourth. I got sick of fixing the pot metal POS and the same issues kept coming up so it went back to the factory. Now it's new in the box and I want to get rid of it. Anyone want a new one with 6 new mags for $300?
