    Walter MP5: how to decock

What's the best way to decock this 22lr firearm? Will holding the charging handle back then depressing the trigger and moving the charging handle forward decock the firearm without damage? Or should I use spent cases or hollow dry wall anchors? I'm looking for the easiest way.

    Thanks!

You want a round in the chamber and it decocked? You want it unloaded? I'm not sure I understand your question.

Sorry I wasnt clear about it. Id like to store it with a clear chamber and decocked, Whats the best way to do that without damaging the gun.

A gun shouldn't break when it is dry fired. Just dry fire the trigger when you get home and checked for a clear chamber.

Please note this is a rimfire gun. It wont "break" but after time I believe it will peen the barrels face.

Im just looking for the best way to decock the firarm with out having the firing pin strike the barrels face too much.

To be totally anal about it, do it like this or die trying: put on safety, let bolt go all the way forward on an empty chamber, remove rear take down pin and slide off butt stock, swing out lower receiver, take off safety and pull trigger (you can follow the hammer with your finger like you would with a pistol hammer).

            Reassemble and done.

Thanks for the reply, seems too anal for me LOL

              would this work?

I could just go the drywall anchor route but Id like to save a couple bucks if I could.

Use drywall screws...they are like .10 a piece

I ended up contacting Walther and they confirmed that holding the charging handle back half way and pulling the trigger then riding the bolt forward will safely decock the firearm without causing damage to the barrels face. Here is the same concept on an AR15

                  Thanks everyone for the input
