CZ-452 varmint model versus custom 40-X

I am proud of myself - last night at my club's .17 HMR fun match, I tied for first against a custom built REM 40-X with a Lilja barrel and Jewell trigger (cost at least $2K) with my $450 CZ-452 Varmint from Gunbroker with a Rifle Basix trigger. About 1/4 inch groups at 50 yards and 5/8 inch at 100. (2 five shot groups at each range.) My CZ usually runs well with the big dogs.

That is excellent but shouldn't you have also posted there were only two people in the match and the other one was 5 years old?

LOL! I don't know many 5-year olds with custom 40Xs. There were 10 or 12 shooters, most shooting volquartson's (spelling?), a few Savages, and a customized Ruger M-77 with a Lilja barrel. It was a .17 HMR/.22 Mag match, though one guy had a .17 WSM. I actually sold the one guy a CMP USMC Rem 4-X that he rebarreled into a .17 HMR with a custom stock, Jewell trigger, Lilja barrel, etc. He is a master machinist who just sold his shop for a lot of money and has always done his own gunsmithing for decades. Many of the guys (including me) shoot ARA smallbore benchrest.
