    Stevens 416XT tube fed rifle

Anyone familiar with a Stevens 416 XT tube-fed target rifle?

I've got several Stevens 416T and Ranger branded versions, but they are all magazine fed.

    A few pics

It almost looks like the "XT" was stamped as an afterthought. Is it the angle of the pic or is the stamping offset?

That is an odd bird. I also own a 416T but have never seen or heard of a tube fed model. It is possible it is a bubba but I doubt it. I bet its just a rare model with very few made. I would love to see what you can find with some research. Wish I could tell you where to start. Good luck.

I don't even see a diagram on Numrich for that model. Have you tried asking at RimfireCentral.com in the Savage, Stevens sub forum?

Savage is one of the hardest to research as far as models, serial numbers etc. I purchased a model 19/1933 NRA model that was researched by the seller. I have the letter somewhere, but the gist was, records from two or three different facilities and brand/model variations made for private brands, contributed to incomplete records by Savage. I also have two gill guns. One in tube fed, and the other with detachable box mag, along with a modern MKII BV. I like 'em because you don't really see too many of them at the range, and the fact that they share a lot of common parts. Nice rifle you have there, especially with the peep sight. Is that a savage peep? also is it drilled and tapped for weaver side mount? Either two or four hole pattern was the norm if it was.

                  A re-barreled Model 5 with a custom stock?

Or a 1-off prototype? Probably not though.

My guess is someone's custom-made rifle.

Either way, it's pretty cool and nicely done.

                  I'll take it!
