Using .22 @100y as long range trainer?

I belive Richmond rod and gun (SFBAY area) still shoot .22 Palma (150/175 200) yard prone shoots.

If you really want to learn wind drift/flag reading then try shooting longer distance then 100 using std. Velocity target ammo.

For the dollar spent the CZ 455's will give you excellent repeatability at 100 yd. I have several CZ' and Brno's and they are all capable of 1 inch at 100 yards. The Varmint comes with a heavy barrel, that might be closer to the weight of your 700,especially if you mount a heavy scope.

Not knowing how your R700 is stocked, here are some options.

This CZ 452 in a TH stock is my 200 yard plinker. It's .17HMR


The light bullets make this a real challenge with any wind.

This is an aftermarket stock that will fit the CZ's.



But plate and cheek rest are adjustable.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. I'm leaning towards a bolt at this point and it really seems like I should look at the CZ. My R700 is a stock PSS .308 with the 26" heavy barrel. I would like to get it cut down to 20-22" and put it in a KMW Sentinel at some point but first I need to mount some quality glass on it.

i saw some cz 452s recently on the classifieds, i would go with one of those.

My answer was more around agreement of 100 yard with 22lr and it's capabilities to simulate come ups practice and not needing a higher end bolt 22lr to make the hits.

To simulate your 700 and bolt action fundamentals reset and such using a 22lr bolt would work great.

Any particular reason why you guys prefer a 10/22 to a bolt? Trigger options, equivalent accuracy, or just being able to maintain a consistent cheek weld?

I'm thinking bolt just to better replicate the mechanics with my R700 but I'm open to suggestion.
