Red Dot for a Beretta 87 Target

    Recently acquired a Beretta 87 .22 Target.

I'm looking at a Red Dot sight for it and wondering between the Leupold DeltaPoint 3.5, and the Burris FastFire III.

    Any observations?

I own both a Deltapoint (first generation), and the Fastfire III

What the first gen Deltapoint lacks the Fastfire III upgraded for half the price.

What the new generation of Detalpoints upgraded to the Fastfire III has the Deltapoint is still more than twice as much.

With the Fastfire III you get 3 brightness settings. High-Medium-Low, and Off.

The battery can be replaced through the top so you don't need to re-zero. It will shut itself off after a few hours if you forget.

The first gen Deltapoint I have has to be removed to replace the battery. There is no on-off, so the sight is on the moment you move it, and during all transportation to and from the range. There is no brightness settings. So it can be too bright in darker settings like an indoor range.

Now, the new Deltapoint PRO has all the cool things the Fastfire III does, but it's a $750 sight.

The Fastfire III can be had for under $300.

That all said, I use the first generation Delta on a 45 ACP 1911. It holds up to recoil just fine, and I re-zero every few hundred rounds.

The Fastfire III is used on a .22 I've never re-zeroed it.

I shoot perfect scores at my local club falling plate match with both set ups. They are equal in my mind when it comes to putting a Ret Dot on a 8 inch target at 25 yards.

The only reason to even bother with the Deltapoint over the Fastfire III is if you are kicking in doors, banging the sight against the ground rolling around with suspects, or happen to drop it into a puddle of water while being all Tacti-cool.

I have not validated the Fastfire can hold up to 45ACP recoil. At this point both my 45 and 22 are perfectly zeroed and I don't want to mess it up.

In retrospect, I probably would have bought a Fastfire over the Delta, but I was in the mindset of all the tacti-cool aspect no matter the cost.

If I was to put another red dot on a 45 I would still give the Fastfire III a chance.

Since you are putting it on a .22 plinker I think the choice is obvious.

When I purchased my new slide from...

Chet recommended the Fastfire III . I've been very happy with it. Together with the mods from CWA this has gone from a just O.K. shooter to one with accuracy I can live with.
