So I stopped by my local gun store yesterday to check out prices on ammo. Being new to .22lr, found a box of 325 Federal and picked it up immediately. Now that I'm reading it, it says ideal for Semi-Auto. Is it ok to use this ammo out of a bolt action? It'll be used in my son's Savage Mark II.

The nice thing about bolt actions is that you can use almost any ammo. If it says 22LR you're good to go.Comment

It is fine to use. The reason they made the Auto-Match brand is that most match level ammo in .22LR was subsonic and would not cycle reliably in semi-auto pistols or rifles.
So auto-match was introduced to fit the niche for competition level quality that would work.
Be a little more careful though, the bullet diameter on my auto-match bullets seemed slightly thicker than bulk stuff. After shooting a good while with a dirty 10/22 I had several rounds FTF in the chamber and one actually went off as it was being loaded. Other than that though the stuff was really nice shooting.Comment

That's not too bad for a LGS. At least one place I know of is still tryin' to flog their bulk .22 at $80/brick.
