    Ammo accuracy

I went to the dessert today and shot a bunch of .22lr. 5 shot groups at 25yds.
Shot at "Appleseed" pace, time to aim each shot but not time to fuss over it.
Shot with Marlin 795 and Savage 64btv.

.22 on hand (what I've found on shelf in the last two years), in no particular order:
    Fed Automatch
    Fed American eagle
    CCI AR Tactical
    CCI Blazer
    Aguila match
    Rem Thunderbolt
Accuracy results wer interesting, and mostly tracked with either rifle.
If you had to shoot a match for all the marbles which would be your top three to shoot?

      ><

For all the marbles....the one that shoots best in the rifle I would be using.

Are you asking what our choices are off your list?Or our own personal choices?

From that list, what do you think was/is most accurate?

My best quess would be the CCI AR Tactical. It shot very well in my Marlin 60.
I have not shot the Aguila or American eagle but they appear to be middle of the road or poorer. I think i have some marbles left around here some where, however over the years people have helped me look because at times they say I have lost some of them.

Most "accurate" would just depend on how your sights are adjusted. Do you really mean which was the most "precise" through your gun?

I've only used 3 of the rounds OP listed.
Federal Automatch-consistent results.Precise in most guns I tried it in.
CCI Blazer-IMO the best inexpensive bulk .22LR ammo.Reliable not as precise as Automatch.
Remington Thunderbolts-My low opinion of Remington ammo has been stated before. Many duds, dirty.Usually let kids shoot it up if I have it.All that said,I have an old Stevens 416T that shoots it into tiny groups.

I'd guess the two CCIs and the Aguila. Federal Automatch has proven consistently awful in each and every one of my guns, but many others have had great results with it.

Well, if I was shooting Appleseed style, 25 yards, one shot every 3 seconds, prone for best accuracy, NPOA checked and rechecked on a 795, I would choose: Any I was given. They will all do the job.

                    Fed Automatch
                    Fed American eagle
                    CCI AR Tactical
                    CCI Blazer
                    Aguila match

At 25 meters you won't see much distinction between SV, HV, or subsonic, so that's off the table.

"All the marbles," I'd rank as follows:

                      CCI AR-T
                      CCI Blazer
                      Aguila Match
                      Fed Automatch
                      Fed AE
                      Rem Thunderstuck

My reasoning is that, at that range what matters most is positive functioning. AR-T feeds better in my Marlin 795-ish. Blazer isn't bad either. Dunderbolts will eventually lead up the barrel and keyhole, which could be a factor depending on the course of fire (i.e. > 100 rounds could spell trouble).

Out of my CZ 452 I'd move Aguila to the head of the class since cycling is no longer an issue, and it sees a slight accuracy improvement -- "slight" being the operative word. Otherwise I'd rank about the same.

Odds are, though, all of them will outshoot the shooter.

Many good/insightful thoughts above. Sifting through posts I see some have had nearly identical results to mine.

Thunderbolts can shoot very small groups, Automatch and my rifles don't get along, Aguila Match may not cycle semi-autos reliably.

In combined results Blazer was best, Automatch worst.

                          This.

Also, when you test, be sure the previous ammo lube is removed from the barrel and you've relubed the barrel prior to test.

This is data from a few years ago: I shot six different types of .22LR through a Shooting Chrony, ten feet from the muzzle. All ammo was shot out of a Marlin 39A, all are ten shot groups. This is to check average velocity, velocity spread and standard deviation. Accuracy was not recorded.

Av. Vel. -- Vel. Spread -- Std. Dev. --
                            Federal Bulk H.P. -- 1191 fps -- 90fps -- 41.8 --
