You might want to post this in General Gun Discussions for more action.

I have a new 15-22 and I really like it.

I recommend new unless the price is right, but half my handguns are used because they are no longer on the roster.

I picked up a used 15-22 off the marketplace here last summer for a great price. Runs like a champ, eats everything I have fed it, fun to shoot!

        15-22 is awesome.

Approximates the AR platform & so fire controls in same place (muscle memory). Cheaper to shoot. AR accessories cross-over given picatinny rails. Great known reliability.

Buying used can be a non issue if the weapon is maintained.

I've had the S&W M&P 15-22 since it first came out and it has been one of my family's favorite plinkers. A note of caution though, since you're looking at a used one, the early production rifles had FTE, FTF, etc. issues (including mine) which required S&W to replace extractors, firing pins, springs, etc. The suspect early production S&W 15-22 rifles have the following letter prefixes: DSZ, DTA, DTB, DTD, DTE, DTH, DTM, DTX, DTU, DTZ, DUA. Aside from the serial number prefix, a quick way to check if the rifle has the corrct working components is the factory painted blue hammer spring (some have a blue spray paint spot). Since S&W fixed my rifle it's been 100% reliable and a hoot to shoot!

              I bought one used.
Love it, have been using it to teach the wife and kids how to handle an AR.
The only thing that really sucks, the short 10 rd mags CAN be a pain to find.
The long 10 rds. are usually readily available.

BTW, IMHO, get the MOE version, better sights and with all the magpul stuff, a good buy.

Pops has one of them, doesn't get shot that much anymore but I use to bring it out a while when I was first starting my firearm collection to practice marksmanship and introduce new shooters. Never had an issue with it no matter the kind of ammo. Whatever you do though do not shot .22 long threw it and then then .22lr weird things happen. And by weird things I mean weird things that make you have to put the rifle away because you do not want to get arrested. It went back to legal and normal after a cleaning I never figured out what caused that to happen.

I have one and the controls are the same as the standard rifle AR making the M&P15-22 great for plinking and skill building. I introduced my wife to the AR15 style rifle using the M&P 15-22 and we both love shooting it. It eats any ammo that we feed it and it's fairly easy to clean after a range trip.

Mine eats everything and doesn't mind being dirty. Gets cleaned every few thousand rounds and still never misses a beat. Extremely reliable in competition to boot!

The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

Great .22 rifle. Controls are identical to full size AR-15 so its great for training as well.
                            You won't regret getting one

I have a 15-22. Very high fun factor. Reliability is perfect with good ammo such as CCI Mini-mags. Lower grade ammo may cause occasional stoppages once the weapon gets really dirty, same as with ANY semi-auto rimfire. I have never regretted buying one.

There are many like it, but this one is mine!
