    CZ 455 was sub-MOA today

I'm sure some of you guys can do better, but this was really good for me. As you could see I was struggling a bit on the first round through, but once I settled in on the rest and reworked the sand bags it was apparent that my fundamentals improved.

This was with CCI 17 gr, the higher pressure stuff for Savage's auto .17. I actually did better last week with it, but didn't bring my phone with me so I didn't have proof of just how awesome this rifle does with a $17 Tasco scope from Wal-Mart on it. I think I'll be getting a Leupold for it soon!

Is that at 50 or 100 yds?

      100. The only disappointing thing on the day was the point of impact had shifted to the right a little. The prior week I had two first shot bullseyes, making fine adjustments with the scope has been a little difficult because there are no click values to go by.

The reason I asked, my .17 shoots the 15.5 Hornaday NXT better than it does anything else, especially at 50 yds.

I haven't really started experimenting with different ammo yet. I bought the A17 variety because it came in a decent priced 200 round box and it was a little higher velocity and I thought the long barrel on my military trainer might make better use of the extra powder. Some reading on barrel length and .17 HMR velocity led me to believe that 24" was actually a few inches too long for the standard 2550 fps loads and actually resulted in decreased velocity in comparison to shorter barrels.

Of course I'm not an expert on these things, but I've really enjoyed the results thus far from the rifle. I've mainly owned/shot semi-autos in my time and had kind of hit the ceiling on their mechanical accuracy without spending tons of money. This little CZ is great for letting me know what I'm doing right and what I can improve on.

            Nice shooting Chuck!
This thread reminded me to get my CZ 452 out and shoot it some. Been too long.
            Thanx.

Please help me decide. I'm plan on getting one and not sure if I should go with the browning t-bolt .17 or the cz455. All suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

My CZ 452 Varmint likes the 20 gr Hornady XTP and does not shoot any 17 gr bullet into 5 shot groups of less than 2 inches, while the 20 gr goes into about 5/8 inch. It also likes the CCI Green bullet.

Actually, this is my second CZ452. The first one had a headspace problem but shot the 17 gr loads into groups close to a half inch. I returned it to CZ-USA for service and they sent me a new rifle (the one cited above.) I know T-bolts are supposed to be good, but my only experience is with CZs and they are great. I also have a CZ 527 in .223 that is also a half MOA rifle.

As you can see I have no complaints about my CZ. I'm not particularly familiar with the Browning, but I can honestly say the quality and craftsmanship on my CZ is second to none. I think you would be hard pressed to find a CHF barrel, lapped from the factory, and fully adjustable trigger built to the quality of the CZ for the price. While the Browning has a flush 10-round magazine, and the CZ a flush 5 rounder I really like the design of the CZ in that it pops the feeding round level in front of the chamber before insertion eliminating any bullet deformation while feeding.

I looked at the Browning on the shelf, and while also very nice it was several hundred dollars more than the CZ. I settled on the CZ Military Trainer because I could use the iron sights while saving up for a scope.

I'll definitely get out and give the 20 gr bullets a try. Who knows what will work best in the 24" barrel of my trainer. I'd also like to get my hands on a chrono for a weekend to see what kind of velocity this barrel puts out in comparison to my buddy's Savage which I think is 20"

Of all the people I know at my club with .17 HMRs - about 20, mine is about the only one that shoots the 20 gr bullets better than the 17 gr V-Max. But mine does usually beats them at 100 yards.

Among all my firearms its kinda crazy to say but my 455 in 17hmr is probably my favorite rifle I own. and I own SBR's and a bunch of suppressor's, etc. Had the American profile 17 barrel cut down to 16" and threaded to silencerco spec for oring engagement. the spectre 2 is amazing on it. that gun with the can can do .5" at 100 all day long with no wind and it is absolute murder on gophers lol.

I shot my 452 Varmint in .17 HMR the other night in a competition where we shot 10 shots at 50 yards, then 10 shots at 100 yards, at a 3/4 inch circle inside a squirrel target. I had one flyer that was about 1/32 inch out of the circle, and it cost me the match against an expensive Cooper that had some custom work on it. I was tied with another custom Cooper... the good thing for me was that my group size was actually smaller than theirs and circular - their groups were actually pretty ragged. My 20 shot group was under 3/4 inch for 2 different distances - it was just a bit off-center in the target.
