    S&W M&P22 Pistol Ammo Reliability

I've had my M&P 22 pistol for about a year now. I love the feel of the pistol and it's a hoot to shoot quickly. However, I was disappointed in its reliability with certain types of ammunition. The point of this forum is for other M&P 22 pistol owners to post what ammunition has been reliable for them. One of the big selling points of this pistol was supposed to be it's reliability. I have tried 4 types and reliability is as follows:

American Eagle round nose 36 gr: FTF/FTE every 7 rounds
    CCI Blazer 36rd: FTF/FTE every 7 rounds
Winchester super X 40gr: Zero malfunctions
Winchester white box 36gr : 1 FTF every 19 rounds

I have a feeling the majority of problems is due to a FTE which causes a FTF.

I've had zero problems with federal bulk and minimags. I think I ran some fiocchi through it too if remember correctly.

This gun is a blast to shoot.
Ive shot at least a brick of...
      -Remington Golden Bullets (Hollowpoints)
      -Remington Thunderbolts
      -CCI Blazer
      -Winchester White box
      -Federal Blue Box
      -Federal AutoMatch
Its been reliable with all these.
The only ammo ive tried and had a problem with is the Winchester M22 that came in the 500 round packs.... i recently tried their newer Winchester M22 in the 400 round packa and this works perfectly fine compared to the older M22.
I also recommend installing some nice fiber optic sights.
I installed the TruGlo TFO sights on mine and It definitely improves the accuracy and makes it much more enjoyable.

I've shot the ammo listed and have zero FTE/ FTF with the standard ammo you listed with my M&P 22. (Gun made Feb 14)

Two weeks ago had to put my Dad into a assisted living memory care unit. He had
15 boxes of SEARS 550 bricks 22LR from late 1960.

Maybe have your gun looked at by a Gun smith.

Have you taken apart and inspected everything?
try assembling it a little more on the wet side, fire a couple test

I've taken it apart and cleaned it every time after going to the range. I've tried running it wet vs dry and I've still had the same problems. Maybe I'll contact S&W and send it back.

No issues apart from a FTF here and there with Rem GB. Otherwise, quite flawless.

Minimags and GB's have been flawless in mine. Federal bulk and Winchester....not so much.

I had a new shooter use mine and limp wristing definately had an effect on anything lighter than minimags.
Once the grip is tighter, mine will eat anything.

My 9 yr old and I have put over 2,000 golden bullets through our suppressed M&P22 pistol. No problems with it so far and it is the gun I use for teaching new shooters so it has been in lots of hands.

                    Remington golden bullet
                    Any of the CCI/Blazer ammo
                    Aquila 36 grain
All ran 100% reliable. The catch is that I cleaned my pistol after each time.

Mine was well broken in when I picked it up used, and it eats Mini-Mags without complaint. Does not like lower powered fodder.

All of the AE/Blazer I shot were in 50 rd individual boxes but we're not copper plated. The winchester is a loose pack brick, but copper plated which leads me to believe that's why it was more reliable.

My extractor is clear of debris and has good spring tension on it.

Federal blue/red box and golden bullets works fine.

All of the .22lr I own is high velocity with the exception of 2 50 rd boxes of remington and one brick of aguila. Surprisingly, the remington subsonic was more reliable than the high velocity American eagle red box.

Question: Did you experience powder burn with the Rem Subsonic?

                              =8-)
                              No powder burn with subsonic.

The Winchester white box bulk seems to run pretty darn good. My last trip to the range with a clean gun had 0 problems in 300 rds. My best guess is with the non-plated bulk packed ammo, the lead nose will leave some sort of residue on the casing causing my FTF/FTE issues. This gun is seriously a hoot to shoot when you let em' fly as fast as you can! I'm tempted to buy an MP9 now since I already have the MP22 as a training tool...
