I got my (very slightly used) MP5 SD .22 out of jail this morning and went right over to Chabot to celebrate.
First, I have to say it's really nice handling a .22 that feels like a REAL GUN, not a wimpy/fragile toy. After I jailed it, I bought a fixed stock, spare mag and a mag clamp from CheaperThanDirt.com. The fixed stock is MUCH more comfortable, the extra mag was great to have, but the magazine clamp doesn't work on the .22 mags. The 9mm mags would probably be fine, but the .22 mags have slots in the sides. When you try to use the clamp, it needs so much force to hold the mags that the slots compress and the follower can't slide right. Oh well.
Turns out I didn't have the 2.5mm hex wrench needed to adjust the rear sight, so I went ahead and attached the cheap 4x compact scope I had. Spent some time getting that set up and then fired away at 50 yards. I used some Stingers, some CCI Tactical, and some Winchester 36 grain 1280 fps "white box" (box of 333 rounds). Surprisingly, the Winchester got the best groups. I may go back tomorrow and try some more since the scope mount didn't fit quite right, so I'd fix that first.
The rifle got a lot of attention since they are still new enough to not have been seen much yet. I think the coolest part though was not needing a bullet button since it's .22. SO NICE to just snap out the mag and snap the next one in!
In short, yes, I'm VERY pleased with this, the ergonomics are great (and the fixed stock adds about 1.5" to the LOP as well), the front grip is very comfortable and although it looks like it would be nose heavy, it didn't feel that way to me at all.
Only problem is now I want the Walther G36 .22 even more.......
