I wanted to do some upgrades to my M&P 15-22 including getting rid of the factory quad rail, I really do not like quad rails at all.
I found Tacticool22 who makes conversion kits for the barrel nut and offers hand guards as well.
I bought the conversion kit and this rail the 10" Ultra light keymod hand guard, the conversion kit worked fine, this rail not so much.
The first problem is the description says the barrel nut is aluminum, it is not it is steel. Last I heard magnets won't stick to aluminum.
Second the threaded holes in the nut for attaching the hand guard were left with major burrs and projections. It would not fit over the conversion kit's barrel nut, I had to use a dremel and sanding drum to smooth out the interior so it would fit.
The last issue and most important one to me is that despite what it says in the description it does NOT sit flush with the upper receiver for a monolithic rail. There are two plastic tabs built in to the M&P 15-22 upper receiver used to index the factory quad rail that prevent the hand guard's barrel nut from seating far enough back to mate with the upper receiver's rail. In order to install this hand guard flush for a monolithic rail I would need to cut away those tabs permanently altering my S&W upper receiver. This is a one way modification, there is no going back after doing this.
I suspect that the response would be that this hand guard, and it's claims of a monolithic rail, were meant for a standard AR pattern upper receiver and that may be the case. However this is 'Tacticool22' the seller of conversion kits for the M&P 15-22 rifle. It is not a stretch or surprise that people would expect items here, especially hand guards advertised right next to the conversion kits, to work with these rifles.
I can't even return it because I had to dremel away the rough machining on the nut so I'm left with the choice of either permanently altering my upper receiver and never being able to go back to the stock hand guards or toss it in the junk box, hope something comes up where I can use it on another rifle and write off the $90 as a learning experience.
