    17 caliber boresnake failures?

Has anyone else had a problem using the 17 caliber boresnakes? I have broke the string on 2 of them so far and can not get a response from Hoppes customer service. Has anyone else had an issue with them? Im only using my hand to pull it through from chamber to muzzle and its not like i can benchpress 600 pounds. I tried tying the first one back together and the string is then to thick to fit through the barrel.

This is disappointing to read since I just bought one two weeks ago and have yet to use it.

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

I have broken three of them, and my LGS swaps them out for me for no additional charge. I bought it there, they send it back to their vendor, and their vendor replaces it. They are crappy, but I would still rather carry one than go out and buy a rod.

If you look at the Amazon reviews some versions of the bore snake seem to have a problem with that, especially in the smaller calibers. I've noticed the first couple of times you use the smaller calibers it's really hard to get them through until they compress a bit.

I've been waiting for the day, expecting it to happen but so far, so good.

Just curious if you are putting it though dry, or with a little wet with something like CLP?

I always fear of breaking the string on mine when trying to pull it though dry but its a lot less friction with a little CLP applied to the snake.

I second using a little CLP, but would want to give it a good cleaning as soon as possible after.

I run a 40 cal brush through the 9mm barrels and 38/357 all the time with no issues.

My Boresnake Viper for 22 is almost broken after maybe 100 passes? It is the string, right near the 'bore guide' which seems to cause more problems than anything. Honestly I got some of the $5 jobs from China on Amazon, and they look better made and seem like they may hold up longer, we'll see.

I got some .090" weed eater nylon line. Heated up the end and flattened it, then added a slit. Use this to pull patched down the bore of .17HMR.
                    Costs almost nothing, works fine.

I've run my 17 boresnake through my CZ and no failures.

I may have used the first one dry. I cant remember but i know the second one was only used with lubricating oil on it.

I have found that if you wait too long to run the bore snake through you will have a lot of resistance.
I like to run it through after 100 or so rounds. When I let it go too far, it can become quite difficult.
I too, also run it with some type of solvent.
                              Good liuck
