Rem597 replacement mags

I've been having feed problems with a Remington 597 that I bought used. Did some research and it looks like the mags are the most likely culprit, as I'd been loading them light and they worked better.

Sent in the old mags to Remington and they replaced them at no cost with the latest generation, no further questions asked....not bad considering I'm not the original owner and don't have the original receipt.

Now to get to the range to test it all out.

How do you like the 597??

I'll know more when I get to take it to the range with a new scope, but I think it's got potential. Can't say I'm a fan of the stock trigger, so I'll be researching how to get that lightened and smoothed out.

Few things I can highly recommend that are easy to do to a 597:
1) KeepShooting magazines. Bought two of them and they have been 100% reliable. They have a little more heft to them and work great.

2) Volquartsen target hammer and edge extractor. The target hammer drops the trigger pull from about 8 lbs to around 3 1/2-4 lbs. You really notice the difference right away. The extractor is also a good upgrade over the factory extractor. https://www.volquartsen.com/tags/4-a...-remington-597

3) Gunsmither Springtrap Tool makes removing and installing the recoil springs much easier. I bent the recoil springs on my rifle and this tool is worth looking into. http://www.gunsmithertools.com/597-r...pringtrap.html

Finally got around to shooting the replacement mags from Remington.

Had no issues with them except that they were a bit harder to load at first. Looks like they may have redesigned the mag to force you to push down and then back a little more dramatically than before. Perhaps they were coming out sooner than they should've in the past.

The KeepShooting magazines and even the Remington replacement magazines take a little use to get broken in. Within a few more uses they will load 10 rounds with easier.

Just a personal preference, but I usually only load 5 rounds in each magazine. Helps reduce the temptation to shoot faster than I should.
