I went to the range today, looking forward to trying out a couple more brands of ammo, SK Standard + and Aguila Super Extra Standard Velocity. I started my shooting with CCI SVRN, while adjusting my mid-barrel tuning weight, and after dialing it in, got a few nice groups, including two sub-quarter inch ones. An older guy next me and I started talking about shooting 22LR. He was shooting some really cool old centerfire rifles, but reached into his ammo box and said "try this out". It was a box of 30 year old Eley Tenex (still had a price tag on it for $7.35). I told him I didn't think I could do the ammo justice, but he said go ahead and shoot a 5 round group. I tried it, but only managed just under 1/2", but a nice clover leaf pattern. I thanked him and we talked some more, and then I decided to move to the SK. Long story short, everything I shot had trouble holding even 1/2" groups; SK, Aguila, and even switching back to CCI SVRN and GECO. The Aguila was literally all over the place, maybe 1 1/2" groups! What the heck? Then I realized that I hadn't cleaned the bore for at least 1200 rounds, which probably was the issue, and rather than waste more ammo, I decided to hang it up until I could give the bore a good cleaning.
It was still early; and I realized that I had brought my 22/45 MK II just by chance. I decided to shoot some CCI AR Tactical ammo that I had in my range bag, since it doesn't shoot well in my 10/22, and any ammo that doesn't, gets thrown into the pistol plinking pile. Since I was shooting at 50 yards, I added 4 clicks to the elevation on the red dot, but I could barely see my little 2 inch rifle targets I was using. I just aimed at the middle of the paper to try to dial in the sight, which was shooting high. At the break, I remembered that I had a bullseye target in my trunk, so I got it and set it up. That was a lot easier to get my red dot onto. I was still hitting high, so I dialed it down a click at a time, every few mags. In the end, I was only 1 click above what I'd normally use at 25 yards (note to self for future reference).
Anyway, here's the target after about 120 rounds of CCI AR Tactical. I used a two hand grip, seated, and a sandbag under my right wrist. Notice there are 8 rounds outside of the bull, some pretty far out, and you can also kind of see the areas where it was grouping between elevation clicks. There was a pretty stiff crosswind, maybe 10-12mph, which is probably explains the windage change. Anyway, CCI AR Tactical wasn't too impressive in my 22/45 either.

I decided to switch to Remington Golden Bullets at the break. I had about a third of a box (225 bulk pack), so I ended up putting 80 rounds through the same target. Notice that out of 60 rounds, 3 landed outside of the bull, but 2 of them were just outside, and the third about an inch out. The rest stayed in the black, and grouped decently.

I don't recall if I've shot the CCI ammo at 25 yards, but at 50, I'd say the Golden Bullet shoots much better in my pistol. Same with my rifle. Of course MiniMags are a different story, but maybe AR Tactical is really specific to the 22LRs in the AR platform? Too bad that I still have about 350 rounds of the stuff, so I think that it will be used for 25 yard plinking only.
