    m&p 15-22 or 10-22? Cant decide

    Ive been considering either a 10-22 or a sw m&p 15-22.

I cant decide what to get.
    I have a m&p 15 in 5.56 already and do like it.

What are some benefits to each and what would you choose?
    Pros/cons

    Thanks!

I have both, and like both. Buy one and get the other later. You can never have enough plinkers.

i say both too. i have a 10/22 takedown, and plan to pick up the tactical solutions bull barrel/hogue stock upgrade combo. but also still plan on picking up a 15-22. good ar trainer. was going to pick one up to help use for training for the kids

Do you want to stay within the AR platform? 10/22 is a great rifle; many mods available, box mags feed reliably, durable construction. I say get one!

I hear that the 15-22 can be ammo pickey? I have a walther p22 and dont want another ammo picky gun

How about the 10/22? Can I run bulk cheap ammo through it?

Im not specific on staying on the ar platform although i do like it.

I can get the 15-22 new for $400 plus fees. Its not the sport edition.

              Both.

              I've got 2 10/22's and just built a .22 AR.

They're both fun, but different. If cost is an issue, get the less expensive one first. You'll likely end up with both eventually.

You really can't go wrong with either.

I bought my first 10/22 in mid-nineties. I shot the cheapest, dirtiest ammo I could find, $10-$12 a brick. I shot over 20 thousand rounds out of it, over couple of years, without cleaning it, ever! I had very few failure to feed or extract issues. I bought another one few years ago and keep shooting cheap stuff out of it with similar result, only I cleaned it few times and upgraded the extractor. My buddy owns a 10/22 and the only ammo he has problems with is bulk Winchester. Everyone should own a 10/22. Not to mention there are a million of different ways to customize one, just like an AR

I have eleven 10-22's and an M&P 15-22 MOE. The 15-22 sees more range time than the 10-22's, and is not finicky ammo wise. I run all my rimfires with One Shot spray cleaner and dry film lube, no muddy residue, and no stoppages.

                            Buy the 10/22

Just got one last week. I had one 30 years ago, but sold it. Took my new one to the range on Saturday and it is dead-on accurate. Bench resting it at 25 yards, I put 10 rounds in a group of less than 1.1 inches. And I am not a "rilfleman". In fact, I couldn't do the same with my Sig M400. Ran 200 rounds through the 10/22 without a single failure to load, fire or eject. It was just a pleasure to shoot. You cannot beat the 10/22.

My first 40 rounds with the new rifle in the upper target; my next 10 rounds in the lower one:

BTW this is firing the model 1256 (NOT a "takedown" model), stainless with the black composite stock. Straight out of the box (only made sure the barrel was clean).

About the Takedown model: it is about $100 more than the standard model, and slightly less accurate especially if you shoot using a sling. Since you mention "rifleman", I do not recommend Takedowns for Appleseed because the point of impact changes depending on sling tightness.

A 10/22 with simple, inexpensive improvements to trigger and barrel will be more accurate than an M&P, but won't look as tacticool.

The M&P is the easiest .22 semiauto to clean that I know. But it costs quite a bit more than a 10/22.

Either one will eat almost any ammo and function reliably. They are designed for that. Unless you get a new barrel or modify the chamber for accuracy, "picky" refers to some ammo types being more accurate than others.
