    Marlin 795 Help Needed

The hammer strut pin snapped in half on my Marlin 795. To avoid a long warranty repair wait, I simply ordered the pin directly from Marlin. When I received it, the replacement pin was smaller in diameter than the original and thus would simply slide out. When I called Marlin, they explained that the pin would be fine and would stay in place once I assembled my rifle. This did not sound right to me and decided to ask CalGuns.

Anybody know if I received solid advice from Marlin or if it was inaccurate?

Not sure but I had a pin wiggle out on my 795, as did a friend. If you need a strong replacement. Figure out the exact diameter you need. Then purchase a drill bit the size you need and cut the shank off. Drill bits come in every size imaginable and are usually high grade tool steel. I doubt in the use you have it'll ever break. Hope that helps

Yea that should probably not have a loose fit.. Is it long enough to be peened over? Without taking one of my rifles apart I'm pretty sure that there is a little dot in the center of the end of my pins.. The kind of dimple you would get from an auto center punch, it probably didn't move a lot of material but enough to get a tighter fit...

      That would be my guess..

Thanks for the drill bit idea rckjeep, I'll keep that as an option.

Chaos, no the replacement pins aren't long enough to be peened.

I contacted Marlin again, they assured me they sent me the correct part but that they would send it out again just in case. If they send the wrong part again I'll either use the drill bit trick or just send it in for warranty repair.

It should be flush. The originals are peened inplae with something like an automatic center punch. The small dent in the center of the pin that it will leave is enough to move a little material to make it tight.
