Savage A17 ?

Looking at the A17 , not real confident with rotary mag.
Is it good, bad or ugly ?
Is there another HMR 17 cal worth looking at? CZ ?

The CZ 455 is designed to use 3 interchangable barrels. A .22lr, .17HMR, and a .22mag. You can get 1 or all.

I didn't realize the Savage A17 is a semi, when I mentioned the CZ's. I tend to stay with bolt guns for their accuracy, although I do have Marlin 60's and 10/22's.

Just picked my up. So far it looks good. I have yet to take it out. I hope people start making some upgrade parts for it. Stock is a little cheap, but Boyds is coming out with one to fix that problem. So far a good buy for 400.

It's a fun little rifle. I did not spend a lot of time at the bench with it, but did get the best groups with the new CCI A17 ammunition. I had an itch to hunt with it, so I shot some groups, then went hunting. I will have more information on how it does at the bench late next week. i have sold a bunch of them and no one has had a bad thing to say other then the stock is on the cheap side

So far Savage is the only one who has made the 17HMR work WELL as a semiautomatic, Remington tried it a while back and recalled them all http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...hmr-model-597/

You have to put the mag in right, it's not a 1911 pistol mag you can just bang up in there.

Savage has gotten it right, the A17 is just born and it's a healthy baby, just a little on the ugly side. There will be lots of aftermarket goodies for it

I looked at one but the place selling it didn't have any ammo and wouldn't backorder it so I passed.

I just got mine back from Savage, hope to go out tomorrow and see if it will work this time.

Open the bolt when you put in the magazine and you'll resolve that issue. Also, if you haven't already, please watch their video on disassembling the rifle, cleaning it and where you should grease it.
