    Winchester 69A Value?

    Hello all,

I was excited when I picked this up, I thought it would be a fun project, but I just don't have the time, money, or the equipment needed to get it up and running again.

It's a Winchester 69A, it's missing the bolt, the metal and wood finish is worn and there is minor surface rust, and the bore looks to be corroded, possibly scratched in some way. The bore damage could be rust, or it could be something else.

My plan was to first buy a bolt, then buy a .22LR liner, bore out the barrel for the liner, then refinish it.

I've decided instead to possibly sell it, if I can get a fair deal on it. Does $200 sound fair?

$200 sounds a little optimistic for me.

I bought a fully-functioning Winchester 69 (not the 69A) for about $325 about 5 years back with the bluing at about 80%, with a good bore and no pitting. From what little I know about Winchester guns from that era, I'd be a little wary about an entire bolt assembly being 100% "drop-in." Probably something might need to be fit or filed by someone competent to get it up and running.

Given the missing bolt, the bluing, and the questionable bore, I think $50 as a "project" gun is probably more in line to what guys here would be willing to pay.

That said, the Winchester 69 quickly became my favorite .22 rifle (perhaps favorite rifle, flat out, full stop). I'd say not to give up on the project! If you can get it to sing again, you won't be disappointed.

I have actually decided to keep it. I do need to find a bolt assembly for it, however, which is really the only thing holding me back

I agree that since the gun is in pretty poor shape, and lacks a bolt something in the "$50 project" gun would be appropriate.

Or...rather than bother with that, keep it and rebuild it.

I did that with an old model 69 (minus the "A") and it came out pretty nice.

Thirst bolt I ordered was for a 69A not the 69 I needed (failed research on my part). But I got it at:
http://www.classicfirearmsandparts.com And he may still have one to fit yours.

I got a couple of mags from numrich ($$$) refinished the stock (barrel was very decent inside and out), got a new buttplate, and a trigger guard.
        Sorry, not sorry.

It might be worth while asking your gunsmith to find a bolt. It seems like my smith has better sources and finds parts that elude me.

I'm checking the usual sources. The only gunsmith I know is retired, and I've been apprenticing under him. He recommended Numrich, and Jack First for parts. I've also checked Ebay and Facebook groups. It seems it's sold out everywhere

Winchester 69 value is priceless. Although it's actually the second favorite bolt action 22 rifle in my collection. My 72 is the favorite, then the 67 is third.

Keep checking eBay, I was surprised to not see a bolt currently for sale

Bolt handles seem prone to breakage on these models. Also no way worth $200 with those issues. The bolts can be hard to find and expensive expect to pay $100-125++.

I would give CFP a call on Monday. As I recall, Scott is basically one man show and there's a chance his sight might not have everything updated. Additionally he might be able to put you on a waiting list for the bolt if he comes across one.

                    Worth giving it a chance.
