    Tactical Solutions X-Ring

    Gentlemen,

I just picked up a TacSol X-Ring rifle in trade. It was a complete TacSol rifle straight from the factory with no other modifications other than a 3-9 scope in rings mounted directly on the receiver.

I ran 400rds thru it yesterday and was able to get almost sub MOA with CCI ammo. I also ran Winchester 555 box ammo thru it with 1.5MOA. The rifle was clean when we started and light lubrication of Wilson Combat "Lite" oil was applied to the bolt every 100 or so.

This leads me to my question: I had 2 stove pipes and 10 FTF with Winchester ammo. The mags are not new and have been used in my 10/22. This happened with all mags.

    Any thoughts?

    Find better ammo than winchester?

More specific to the receiver itself, you said it was clean but did you actually remove the bolt and check that the guide rods weren't gunked up?

^^^This could be it. Was at the range last week, ran +250rds of CCI, no problem. Switched to Win and FTF after FTF (fire not feed). Thought it might be the gun. So, put the FTF rounds in my .22LR revolver that shoots just about anything.
      Same result, no bang.

Crappy ammo is as crappy ammo does.

I have a complete KIDD 10/22 and it loves Federal Match, was getting 2 MOA groups at 100 yds outside. It's an easy 1 MOA rifle with that ammo & a better shooter.

Find what your rifle likes and stick with it. A TacSol rifle is top quality gear, I've owned several of their barrels & they were all outstanding. I would be more inclined to think it was the ammo that was the prob.

Edit: you need to include pics of the rifle. C'mon, man!

Yes, I am pretty anal about my firearms and keep them clean and do not let them get gunky. That would be my original thought, but being clean to start I knew it wasn't the problem.

Ill shoot the CCI out of the TacSol and keep the Winchester for the old 10/22 I had as a kid. Thank you for the input gentlemen.

Is your firing pin crosspinned? I used to get FTF on bulk ammo until I had my bolt done, which includes crosspinning the firing pin. That plus an extra power hammer spring, and I don't think I've had a FTF ever since, with at least two thousand rounds of Winchester white box ammo.

On an x-ring receiver? They aren't made like a standard 10/22.

My mistake. I just watched the disassembly video. The bolt looks interesting, and the dual recoil springs look like they would really keep the bolt aligned compared to the 10/22 design. Pretty cool.

Definitely, they're buttery smooth with nothing really torquing anything to the side like the normal guiderod(although really most of that can be dealt with just by polishing it real quick).

I am thinking its the ammo. I took apart the TacSol and made sure everything was in alignment with no signs of wear and that the bolt functions well.

I was serious about the ammo in my previous comment, crappy ammo produces crappy results in many rifles. Since you got a tacsol rifle and not just the receiver, if I remember correctly the chamber is going to be tighter than anything ruger produces as well.

I think its the gun not the ammo. Send it to me and Ill test it out for a couple years and get it shooting better.

I agree with you Merc1138. I have had FTFeed issues in some of my Wilson Combat 1911's with low grade ammo, so I wouldn't think it would be any different with a TacSol with tight tolerances also.

I have a bunch of CCI that I will shoot until I run out. Any recommendations on ammo?

Ammo....my 10/22 HATES the winchester bulk pack. It choked so bad its not funny. I couldn't get more than 2 rounds in a row to feed. It'll run remington thunderbolts, cci's, fed's all day long with a Kidd Barrel
