10/22 - M1 carbine conversion update

It seems I can't post in the old thread as it's now too old...

Well, I finally got tired of the poor quality finish/light and fragile varnish coming off. I sanded the stock down and stained it with some cherry stain I had laying around. While I was sanding I profiled the stock to match the handguard, looks and feels much better. A couple of coats of tung oil and it GTG.

I did not take the time to get a super smooth finish on this stock like I have previously done, that doesn't seen to fit the image of the M1 carbine. I think it looks pretty good, a little too shiny right now but that will fix itself. More grain popped on this stock than I expected.

Still having great fun with this little rifle, it has become/is again my favorite gun to start new shooters with, so it's getting some good use!

Your rifle does look good! I'm sitting here looking at a steel M1 Carbine handguard, thinking about how to attach it to my wood stocked Ruger instead of having to buy both the stock kit and the handguard without an opening for the original Ruger rear sight.

Yeah, the hole in the handguard for the original Ruger rear sight is the biggest issue with this stock, even more than the poor finish.

On the other hand, it still looks good and it's just a fun-gun after all. The Tech sights look OK here and are a great addition to any Ruger 10/22.

Love it. This will be the next mod to my 10/22. I will probably refinish the stock as well.
