I ended up here by a Google and since I consider myself a snow bird, I joined. I bought my A17 about 2 months ago. I didn't go through the same break in that you did, but not only did mine not cycle, it stove piped and the magazine would fall out even though it had snapped in. I bought a 200 box of CCI A17 ammo and fired 28 rounds and was disgusted. I called them. UPS picked it up and they had it for a month. I got it on Friday. Went to the range on Sunday afternoon. I purchased one box of Hornady 17 grain and used that along with the CCI. The first mag cycled fine except for one round. I then videoed a review. Two complete mags failed, every round. Monday, last week, I called. UPS got it Tuesday. I put it on my Discover card so called them. Even though our laws pretty much relieve the retailer for obvious reasons, Discover is handling it now. I would have to think at this time that it is a design flaw that can't be fixed. Our state laws make it impossible to bring a firearm back to the retailer for obvious reasons. The thing that makes me the maddest is this. Hornady developes the caliber and they along with gun manufacturers buy lots of advertising so we don't get the straight truth. Now with CCI involved along with Hornady and Savage. They all stand to make money at the expense of the consumer who virtually has no recourse. I believe in our freedoms, including freedom of the press, but journalists should be bound by ethics. I wish Consumer Reports reviewed guns. They will call them like they see them. Don't buy this gun!!!

There must be a design flaw, hopefully the figure it our and make the necessary fixes. I believe there is a niche for the rifle considering the price of all the competitors and the fun of a semi.

I'm sorry to hear the issues you guys are having with your A17. I got mine on the 20th of March and really have had no issues with it. I've probably put close to 700 rounds of Hornady and about 100 rounds of A17 and only cleaned it once at about 300 rounds. It goes everywhere with me in my truck and always ready for gophers and Rabbits! Only have had about 3 rounds that did not fire, but it was the rounds because I put them into my bolts and they wouldn't fire either. I did have the mag pop out a couple of times until I figured out that it likes the bolt open when snapping in the mag as another poster stated.

Gophers, jack rabbits and coyotes really don't like my A17... lol

        Good luck on your guns!

Good to hear some are not having problems with their A17s. Good shooting also!

No problems with mine either. I was smoking ground squirrels with it a couple of weeks ago and it did great!

I do not recommend buying this POS

I usually do not flame a gun (I won't call it a rifle) but the quality was so bad that I have to. The rotary magazine was the worst loading I have ever used and it would not stay in-and I even tried opening the bolt to insert it-although that would get real old real quick. Also the first time out it failed to extract on two rounds and jammed on two others-How could a company knowingly sell something like this and not expect the word to get out.
              AVOID BUYING A SAVAGE A17
