    AR-22 question

Does the 16" overall barrel length law apply to .22 rimfire uppers for the AR 15 platform?

Yes. And must be 26"+ in the shortest fireable configuration. Unless its a pistol build on a legal pistol lower. Whatcha building?

      Thanks.

What is weird is that I have replied to this at least twice.....and I keep not seeing it posted.Maybe I'm spacing and not hitting Post Reply before moving to another page but anyway....whatever.

I have a built AR lower that I cannot decide on whether going 300 AAC or one of the 6mm options....so I decided I might get a rimfire upper in the meantime while I decide. But whatever .22 configuration I go with.....complete built upper, my own build etc.....I want it to be as accurate as possible. I saw this Taccom upper that looks interesting in the latest Recoil mag. It looks quite cool.

Any ideas on a super accurate offering in .22 for the AR platform? One that is not predominantly polymer would be good also.

I built a dedicated .22 upper using a CMMG barrel (.22 not 5.56) and their conversion bolt. Came together as a package. After some initial hiccups, it works great and is quite accurate, even with a cheapo red-dot for an optic.

And it's tons of fun to shoot!!!

So why does the 26in plus shortest firing position apply here and i have to go 30+ with my Tavor? Because its rimfire?

Yes, centerfire vs rimfire difference. Same with the BB requirement.

Kinda depends what you want to spend. Build a upper with a Clint Beyer barrel, not a cheap barrel by any means, but accurate. There are many other options too, search the web or go to the Ar15 forum and inquire in the Pistol Caliber section.

You can spend 1000.00 plus easy if you want too on a .22 upper . Me, I personally find the Taccom and CMMG barrel route both adequately accurate and fair priced. Most cannot even shoot those brands to their full capacity anyway.

I have a CMMG dedicated upper and it eats everything. Super reliable and reasonably accurate. A ton of fun!
