10/22 scoped/ accurizized-- stock options please

I have upgraded almost everything on my trusty early 1980s 10/22, everything except the receiver.

Here's where it stands today



Hogue stock, bull barrel, kidd two stage, kidd bolt, buffer, Kidd scope rail, leup vari x III 3 x 9 x 50.

Shoots very well.

I'm thinking about a stock upgrade. Id like more cheek piece. The scope can't sit lower.

Id like something with a flat Forend that will let me run the Harris or off bags.

I see the bell and carlsons with adjustable cheek pieces, but have never held one. I love the sticky rubber of the hogue, especially when it's hot out.

Anyone have any suggestions, as in something you use, as opposed to pictures online?

I've used boyds stocks and liked them, but considering their anti CA 2a stance... screw them.

Shot someone's B&C odyssey, wasn't adjusted for me, seemed solid enough but that was a whole 5 minutes spent with it.

Hate the hogue, as the sticky rubber drives me nuts and it feels like it was made for a midget.

My current preference is the victor company titan(there's a thread here with a bunch of pictures if you look).

I have a question about something in your post, that you might want to clarify. When you mentioned a flat forend for using a harris or off of bags...

Do you mean something like this?

Because a harris by itself isn't going to work mounted to a sling stud. You'll need an adapter(if you want to avoid adding a pic rail) http://www.harrisbipods.com/HB9.html and I can tell you from experience, that adapter sucks. It keeps the harris from rotating(and unthreading your sling stud) if the forend is too flat, but it's also a fiddly and annoying mess to adjust and never seemed to want to get quite right.

Or did you mean to simply avoid a sharp angle like the tactical solutions vantage stock, or something with a weird step in it like the boyds blaster?

Mine's on a Boyd's Tacticool. They have a flat bottom beaver tail fore end and high rise Monte Carlo comb. Nice and rigid, accurate and comfortable to shoot. The poor man's Bell & Carlson.

Build is a Razor receiver, KIDD 20" SST tapered match barrel/scalloped bolt/recoil rod+charging handle/single stage FCG and Mueller scope.

No issues with a stud mounted bipod on the Boyd's. Tried one on for size and it fitted up nice and tight.

There isn't an issue with the studs backing out on a "normal" stock, but if the forend is too flat(I'm sure you've noticed the harris has sort of a channel to cradle up the sides of the stock slightly), the harris will just spin and back the stud out(which is irritating as hell when the stud is just threaded into wood, which would normally be fine, but over time it jacks up the threads and you eventually need to break out the jb weld and shoe polish to fix it so the stud stays put). Basically, it's a non-issue on something like the boyds tacticool but would be on something like this:

I am looking at that. How's the cheek weld, and what did you finish it with please?

Boyd's black textured factory finish. Cheek weld is good, much better than OEM Ruger or Hogue overmolded I have used. And much better than my Butler creek folder lol!

Also, reasonably priced IMO. Have had mine for a while, don't see any painted/finished ones around in stock.

Yes, three total from the factory so that a bipod and sling can be mounted at the same time. Or a spare up front if one pulls out.

A harris bipod has a sling mount included(you just need to put a swivel on it).


Having 2 sling studs up front allows you to use a ching sling.

Looks like it to me. And I think boyd's has backed off of their anti-CA policy and will ship here now.

I received a Boyd's stock for my rimfire about a month ago. I did phone in the order and did not order online. Online reportedly is still an issue....

I like the stock by the way.
