Not being familiar with what a 40X was (I had to Google it) my first thought was:

"Man, that seems like a lot of scope for a .22!"

I have a CMP 40XHB that I love. I found it likes Eley Black Box Match or Tenex the best. My gun prefers the 1059 FPS area velocity batches. But each rimfire is different and your might like something else. I usually just use a .22 cal bronze brush bent at a 90-degree angle to clean the chamber periodically and rarely clean the barrel. If I do clean the barrel, it take several shots to settle back in. I have a Weaver T-36 scope on mine.

My 40X looked like Hell when I got it - vise marks in the sides of the stock, big dents and dings in the stock - but the metal was good. I steamed, sanded and refinished the stock and re-crowned the barrel. The barrel seemed to be very hard steel, by the way.

Looks great now! I've got some tenex and match just to test, along with some RWS, SK, Wolf, and Norma. It lives in an Eliseo R1 stock which was part of my interest in it. Do you have a source for Eley ammunition by lot number?

Best advice. Lots of 40X owners and shooters over there. I suspect you'll get a real education on that rifle and ammo.

For ammunition go to Dan Killoughs website. I think its called Killoughs Shooters Supply but if not that will at least get you there.
He is linked to Zanders and gets a better price than ordering through a local gun store.
My guns like Tenex and Eley is still the overwhelming top dog of 22 Benchrest so give it a good try.
