CZ 455 American .22

Saturday I visited my local gun store and bought a new CZ 455 American .22. Appears to be very well made and I'm a bit of a sucker for .22 rifles. I have a couple of questions:

I'd like to place some glass on the rifle. Can someone recommend a scope for the CZ as well as rings and bases? I'd like to keep the scope around $200 but may spent a bit more for a better scope.

It comes with a single 5 shot magazine. I'd like to buy several more 10 shot magazines. Any recommendation where to buy these?

The scope depends what you plan to do with it. Hunt small game, shoot tin cans, or shoot from a bench for small groups. There are several places that you can get mags. I'm not sure if the 10 round mags come in steel, but the plastic mags are more than sufficient. I don't use mags, only SSA's in my CZ's.

I have the same rifle with a bull barrel. I have a diamondback 4-12 40mm with bkl scope rings. I purchased the 10 round mag at midwayUSA. Very accurate at 75-100 yards. I also added a larger bolt knob with the help of randall from ar15barrel

Leupold rings. They are better than OEM CZ rings. Tally rings are also nice. If you decide to get Leupold rings go with the high ones. You will likely have bolt clearance issues if you don't.

Choosing a scope is a VERY personal choice. I personally have a Mueller AVP on my 455 Varmint and am very happy with it... and you can't really beat the price.

I have a weaver 6x24 with 42 mm objective lense. And I use warne 7.2 medium rings. No problem with bold clearance. Hope you enjoy your rifle as much as I do mine.

2nd the suggestion for Warne rings. Size 721M. High rings are 722.

As others have said it's a highly individual choice, and it depends on what you want to do with it. But good glass will not be wasted on it.

Mine (452 Varmint) has a Weaver 4x38, my favorite general-purpose scope, and well within your price range. Used the standard height CZ rings.

Depending on your needs you might want an adjustable parallax model, though. Bolt clearance can also be an issue -- this is not a rifle for ultra-low scope mounting. My bolt handle clears with about a dime's thickness to spare...



In my experience the plastic magazines work better than the metal ones. They're readily available.

I have the 455 American combo in 17 HMR/ 22LR.

Set up for 17 HMR as follows:

Zeiss Conquest 4.5x14-44MC with Z-plex reticle.

Burris zee signature high rings. The mediums fit but with the little play in the bolt I could get it to hit the scope.

JP adapters

The factory 10 round mags work great and recommend them over the 5 rounders.

I personally like using the 5 rd mag instead of the 10. The 10 rd mag juts out and gets in the way whereas the 5 rd mag fits flush. You can get them from the CZUSA website or Ebay.
