Reliability Question for Sig Sauer Mosquito .22LR

I am being advised to avoid the Sig Sauer Mosquito .22LR pistol because it is not reliable. Does anyone have any personal experience with this semi-auto by Sig and is it indeed not reliable?

Well I have one. Picky on ammo. If I was to do it all over, would pick another gun. Lot of the 22 1911s look interesting. I generally shoot the Mosquito single action anyhow, so no great loss with a 1911 style.

I haven't had issues with CCI MiniMags. It comes with two recoil springs of different strengths and I'm told lots of problems stem from using the wrong one. My problem is that it is simply too small and my thumb knuckle hits the slide stop and locks it open.

This! Took me a couple outings to figure out the slide stop.

Look at posts made by mrrabbit for a wealth of info on that pistol. Great info. Look him up in the Members List and read his posts.

They need some time to work right and most of that has to do with finding the ammo that works with the gun. I love the feel of the grip, it's perfection to me.

A friend bought one brand new and the damn thing NEVER ran right (as in not a magazine full without a jam or three)---he bought it because he wanted a quality 22 pistol and it's a SIG, right? We tried damn near EVERY brand and type of 22 ammo (before the shortage) and both recoil springs---absolutly no luck! He has since moved out of state, so I don't know any more on that pistol---but I personally, would NEVER buy one!

                Throw this in google:
                site:calguns.net mosquito
You will see that there is a lot of hate for it. You will also see mrrabbit rabidly blaming users for the pistols downfalls.

Personally my friends Mosquito is a POS. Jams, horrible trigger, built like a toy.

Do it right the first time and get a Buckmark or Ruger MK series (yes I know they are off roster now, ppt, family transfer etc)

My mosquito will eat any ammo no problem. It come with two spring, one for high velocity ammo and second one is for standard ammo. use proper spring accordingly and you won't have problem

Mine has been relatively problem free with the right ammo, magazines and attention to the instruction manual. They ARE ammo picky and like to be clean & wet.

If you want a low maintenance reliable .22 just pick up a Ruger MK type via PPT. They are out there.

Enjoy my mosquito but as mentioned, lots of interesting 22 semis on the market. In addition to being very ammo sensitive, the trigger is awful. Have about 4k rounds through it.

"Reliability" and "Sig Sauer Mosquito" are mutually exclusive terms.

They absolutely suck. A bud bought one when they first came out and it never worked right. At work we've sent out a ton for repair. The last one is on its third trip back from Sig. I didn't handle it the first time but the second time they reamed the barrel, and the third time they replaced the barrel. THEre are so much better options for a rimfire pistol.

The pistol you want is the Browning Buck Mark. They can be had in the low 300s for the Camper UFX. I am hoping to put one in Jail tomorrow.

I almost picked up a mosquito but then I realized there were better made 22lrs for similar money. If you do decide to get one they are having a free Ammo promo until the end of the month. Although instead of Ammo CA residents get a free magazine. Still a nice little rebate.

Sig Mosquito is by far the worst POS

there are a lot of videos out there to fix it.

The Walther P22 had the same rap. But when it was fixed. It was reliable.
The mosquito. Got better. But still had issues.
