Hammerli looks a little more badass in my opinion. That said Id probably get a smith 41 over either.

I have owned the Trailside (3 of them actually) which was what they used to call the Xesse before the company traded hands. I highly recommend them. I love mine. Genuine match quality where it counts, but at half the price of most high end target guns. fantastic quality. Enough quality to test and challenge your ability.
also, I used to shoot CCI Green Tag match ammo with it and had really nice results. any quality match rounds. You want sub-sonic.
You're making me think I'm gonna have ta' get'a nader' one. (sold it when economy tanked but about time to get another one. Really, I've been missing mine. Start just under $800 and up

                  +1 to all of this.

My Trailside is insanely accurate, the test 25m target they sent with the gun is just a tiny clover leaf. Mine loves CCI Standard Vels. Only downside is the mags: plastic and around $40 a pop. Also, ignore the roster, they are Olympic Exempt. I snapped a nice 1 MOA RDS on the top rail and it's laser beam accurate, regardless who's pulling the bang switch. Beginners love it.

I went this route after seeing the 41's at around 1k when I was in the market for a quality .22 pistol.

                  Buy with confidence.
                  Regards,
                  Mike

The 41 at $800 to $1000 is a better deal.

You get what you pay for in this case.

I love my buck mark but you guys have peaked my interest in these. What's a good place to find more info on these? I've never seen them in person.

                            Parts & Service

Larry's Guns out in Maine is the Hammerli parts goto store. Nice people and easy to do business with.

                            From the site:

"Larry's Guns now has the largest inventory of Hammerli and Benelli guns and parts in the U.S.A. We have many parts for obsolete Hammerli pistols."

Mine was bought NIB from A-Z Sports in Idaho back in 2008. I haven't seen on in a display case for ages, sorry.

                            Regards,
                            Mike

I've owned both, but I was way fonder of my Hammerli X-Esse (sold as the SIG Trailside). I loved my SIG Trailside and I regret the day I ever sold it. It was the lightest and sweetest-shooting 22LR pistol I have ever owned. I had the 6" Target model. I installed a Weigand scope mount/barrel weight system (http://www.rocosystem.com/Xessescopemount/), a Tasco PDP2 red dot in Leupold Rifleman Rings, and a set of Hammerli match adjustable grips (http://www.larrysguns.com/Products/H...-spc-grip.aspx). That was such a sweet pistol. It was a sad day when I was forced to part with it.

OP, in all honesty -- if you can find one -- get the Hammerli X-Esse. But...be prepared to pay a pretty penny! They are hard to come by these days and they are highly sought after by target shooters. Good luck! --1911ShooterPhil
