Looking for a really lightweight 22 to use as a snake and varmint gun on my property in AZ. I need a revolver because I will be shooting Colibri (primer only) ammo that will not cycle a semi auto. I previously had a Ruger LCR 22lr, but sold it as I did not like the DAO trigger. I guess if Ruger ever produces an LCR-22lr with a hammer, I'd buy it. But they don't. The 317 is even lighter than the LCR, anyway. I cannot find a 317 anywhere in SoCal!! Does anyone know a dealer with one in stock??? Thanks in advance!

17 ,317,617. Good luck. Ive been looking high and low as well as a few others I know for a bug out gun. Some of the guns coming up have firing pin problems so not sure if i would recommend buying used any more
CA: Exorcising my 2A rights -
I've owned two317's and sold them.
The DA pull is horrible! I mean horrible.
SA was fine.
Whatever you do, if you do happened to fine one, try the trigger pull before you buy it.
Good Luck.

Any S&W revolver in 22lr seems hard to find. I went with the
ruger SP101 in 22LR. Only come in 4.2" barrel, so that maybe a
a deal breaker for you. DA is not bad after I changed the main spring
to 12 lbs from factory 16lb. (these a spring ratings not trigger pull)
SA in nice a crisp.Comment

I would bet gun world in Burbank would have one but you would pay a premium. That being said the 317 is more miss than hit when it comes to people liking them. The trigger is said to be the worst of all .22 revolvers and the aluminum cylinder eats up lead ammo so you would probably have to use jacketed ammo. If you can get a 63/3 inch that would be the best bet. Light and well regarded.John P. Hermesmeyer

Wow. Learning alot about the 317 that I didn't know. Thanks guys. Maybe I will pass on one. I actually have an SP101-22lr, but it seems quite heavy for what I would like to use it for......something to throw a pocket holster and not worry about a belt holster. I also had an LCR-22lr (good size and weight), but did not like the trigger (want something to be used SA when I want). I wish Ruger would make an LCRx in 22lr!"Bye Felicia!" - Said by me, as I looked at Kalfornia in my rearview for the last time, 9/22/17.

Just curious that for your stated purposes you don't consider a Single Six or a Single Ten. If you want really lightweight, a Bearcat.sigpic

I was about to recomend the same...
I love my Single Six, and have never had a single issue with it..ever, and I've owned it since 2003 and put quite a few rounds through it! I also like that I can switch cylinders and shoot 22mag.Comment

I have a single ten as well. Yep, it is a sweet shooter for sure. Just to large and heavy to be a pocket holster gun. Maybe I will look at another LCR-22lr again. Or the Ruger shop keeper."Bye Felicia!" - Said by me, as I looked at Kalfornia in my rearview for the last time, 9/22/17.

You want a Heritage Rough Rider Revolver.
Some models have alloy frames and are very light. If you're going to just shoot Colibri's, it will last forever.
The 22 WMR shot-shells are very effective against snakes. Not so much on anything else.
I have a convertible (22lr/22 WMR) and it's one of my favorite plinkers that I don't have to 'worry' about. The new shooters get this one to shoot.
You should be able to get one for $150-ish.It cannot be inherited, nor can it ever be purchased.
You and no one alive can buy it for any price. It is impossible to rent and cannot be lent.
You alone and our own have earned it with...Your sweat, blood and lives. You own it forever.
The title is....."United States Marine".

Normally wouldn't suggest that either but for your purpose that may be a god choice.You want a Heritage Rough Rider Revolver.

Have a 317 and love it! Never had any issues. Spegel Grips. The ammo weighs more then the gun!
TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
