    Target Scope for 795

I'm looking to upgrade the scope on my 795. I did some research and these two were the ones that stood out the most to me. The Vortex Crossfire II is the 2-7x32 model and the Mueller APV is 4.5-14x40. I want to do a lot more target shooting, from 50 to 100 yards so this would strictly be a target rifle. Does anyone have any experience with these two or can recommend a favorite in the $150 range? Thanks.

What's the reticle like on that one? I've heard that on some scopes they're too thick. And how is the 2-7 magnification on 100 yard targets?

7X at 100yds is the as you see with the naked eye @14yds. 18X at 100yds is same as you see with the naked eye @ 5.5yds. That is a huge difference if you are wanting to shoot small groups. @ 100yds I use a Weaver 24x and a Mueller 8.5-25x. Don't cheap out on the scope, you will be sorry. (ie. No BSA or Barska). The only scopes made in China that I would consider is the Crossfire II series or a Mueller and that because of the warranties from those folks.

I would go with more power. I use a 8-32x44 on mine shooting at 50 yds. Perfect.

target shooting only leaves one more question, prone or from a bench? I shoot a Falcon on a Pappa's bench rest with a leupold 45x45, you can pick out a fly's wings with it. on my other bench toys I have variable powered scopes. I think anything over 10 power is hard to hold from prone, from a bench more is always better. And then there is always the question of your eyes, my need more power.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It would probably be from the bench 99 percent of time, just something to shoot tiny groups with.

I use my 2-7 mostly at 25 yards, maybe out to 50. I find that the reticle are fine for my use. It should be fine for 100yards as well.
