    What 17HMR to get poll

Ok, so I am bailing on the 17hm2 for its big brother. I want a semi-auto, no bolt guns.

The Savage A17 is supposed to be released tomorrow. If you get one, let us know how it shoots.

Any would be fine if you can afford the rapid shooting of .17HMR ammo. Love my Savage 93r17 bolt rifle. Seems with .17HMR the ammo is the key to accuracy not so much the rifle. Shot another fellows Hand-Rifle (single shot) and was just as accurate as my Savage. For me the Hornady or CCI .17HMR ammo shoots the best.

Not looking for spray and pray, but do like to play wack-a-mole with squirrels and like the quick follow-up shot that a semi provides. Davidson's doesn't have the Savage available to order yet, not sure when they will actually hit the market. Also, would like a threaded barrel... of course for the price difference the cost of barrel threading is not an issue.

It is interesting that so far no one has voted for what was my first choice, the Alexander Arms. I like the price and look of the Savage, but without a date to get one combined with no track record has me undecided.

Savage A17 should be here by this weekend. Hopefully I will have time to go sight it in!

I have a Alexander Arms 17 HMR rifle build. The upper is very well made, with very good machine work on the bolt and nice rifling in the barrel. Lots and lots of time and effort went into designing this upper to work just right. I have 300+ rounds of Hornady V-Max through it with very few malfunctions, the only issues I had were magazine related, last round FTF(likely due stiff mag springs that need to be broken in).

Accuracy is outstanding, its the most accurate and easy to shoot well firearm I own. With minimal effort I could shoot sub 1 inch groups at 100 yards, with more practice and zero wind I bet I could do 1/2 inch.

Let me know if you have any other questions about the upper, and I can post some photos of my setup tomorrow if your interested.

I will try the Savage. If it does not prove to be dependable and accurate then I will probablly order the Alexander Arms.

If I were buying a semi auto 17 HMR now, I would wait for the Savage too(given it turns out to be safe/reliable and accurate. You could buy three Savage A17s for the price of one Alexander Arms 17 HMR build(with SSA trigger).

The wait time on Alexander Arms 17 HMR uppers is around 4-6 months, so you should get in line now(they charge you when it ships) and when you get a Savage A17 and like it you can just cancel the order.
