What is this: .22 with threads in bore?

    I picked up two .22 marlin/glenfields yesterday:

While cleaning I noticed one of them, the Model 70, has threads in the last inch (approx) of the bore:

Is this for a blank firing device? I can't think of any other reason for threads inside the barrel. This rifle was listed on the tag as coming from Stembridge.

Anybody got any good information about this? If it was a blank adapter of some kind, I'd like to see pictures of the device and what type of blanks might have been used. So far my google-fu has found nada.

    TIA

Wow..that's weird.....perhaps a threaded adaptor for a 'line launcher' where you fire off a .22 blank..?
May the Bridges I burn light the way.

Some movie blank adapters are set screws with holes drilled in them.Raises the barrel pressure high enough to cycle a semi-auto.

Remember reading an article about it on the Bren 10 used in Miami Vice.

I think Don Johnson (Sonny Crocket) was the only guy who had a Bren 10 with spare magazines.

You may want to ask this on www.rimfirecentral.com. Bunch of old dudes that like .22 stuff. I am in the group but can't answer your question.

            Stembridge collection

Even though a lot of the guns will never be able to shoot again they still had to go through the paperwork

I am assuming you guys are right; I was hoping some of the movie/TV people on this forum could provide information.

A lot of the guns were bought by Dan Shea who owns Long Mountain Outfitters. He has been selling some - the Marlins in the picture are two of them.

This might help scroll down, apparently Marlin had internally threaded bbls for suppressor use, don't know if it applies to your rifle though.
