    Marlin xt17V vs Savage 93R17

So will a little help hear, I'll be getting my first 17hmr but which is better the Marlin or Savage. What i like about the Marlin is that it has the 7rds mag and maybe if I'm right it also comes with the 4rd mag too. The Marlin has a nicer stock and barrel is a inch longer over the Savage. For the Savage it comes with a 5rd mag and has a 21inch barrel also should come with a scope a (3-9x40). So what is better between both rifle, price is about the same. Hard to choose from.

CZ 452 .17HMR or CZ 455. 3 different barrels, .22lr, .17HMR, and .22 mag, or you can get the single caliber you want for less than $400.

They cost a little more but you get what you pay for.

I have both in 22wmr. The marlin I put a thumb hole stock, sent the trigger and bolt out for some work, (less then $50) put a simmons whitetail scope and it can hold it's own on any range. The Savage I put the same stock on, had the trigger worked on, Appachee did it for about $35, put a viper scope on it and it goes to the range weekly. I like the bolt on the Savage better then the Marlin, but that is just the way my thumb catches it. I shoot more off a bench and higher powered scopes. With a little trigger work you'll love either one.

Marlins barrels are suppose to be better, but nowadays Remington owns Marlin.. Quality control could be a hit or miss.

I have the Savage with Bull barrel. Have no complaints and shoots like a laser if there is no wind. You can get a 10rd mag for the savage (~$40). and that is what I use. I have found it shoots CCI poly tips the best, Horaday a close second. YMMV.

I just picked up a used Savage 93R in .17hmr, it shot pretty well.

I restocked it with a Boyds Evolution stock, adjusted the trigger but have not had a chance to hit the range, I expect to like it even more. Down the road I'll be adding a better scope and letting the Mrs. and Miss have a go at it.

For comparison I also have a Ruger .17hmr all stainless, it shoots pretty well right out of the box and I am considering a 2nd mortgage to be able to properly feed and equip both rifles.

I'm in the same decision dilemma. I like the savage for the price with a scope. The stock is the only drawback to me. But then I haven't seen one in person yet. What's the opinion of the wood stock?

I have had a Savage for maybe seven years now. It shoots better than I do. I would suggest upgrading the scope it comes with. Even if you don't, it will still probably be more accurate than the average shooter can hold.

I have no experience with the Marlin. I did buy a CZ .22 for my son, though. If you want a nicer rifle out of the box, get one of theirs in .17.

I have check both rifle out today in the same store, the Marlin does look a lot nicer over the Savage. However the Savage has a smoothed bolt over the Marlin, but i have to say im going with the Marlin on this. Price range was $10 different only.

Saw both of them today. Savage stock looks very cheap..Marlin very nice. Going with the Marlin. Don't think the performance is much different, so going for the better stock.
