    10/22 questions

I picked up a 10/22 and am wanting to put a scope on it. I have a weaver in the back of my safe collecting dust, so will probably through that on there. My question, it looks it already has a rail on top of the receiver, but it's not a picitiny. unnamed.jpg

Will normal scope rings work? Or what?

EDIT: Follow up question... what kind of accuracy can I expect from a bone stock 10/22?

    It is Dove Tail.

Use it. Enjoy. Been working for decades.

Unless you just want to spend money

I never have had any issues with dove tail on a .22lr.

      Umm...that mount is on backwards.
The missing screws in the two center holes is the clue.
The end of the mount with the two screw holes closest together goes towards the muzzle.
Flip the mount around and then the mount can be attached with all four screws.
The screws are 6-48 thread, if missing order them from Ruger, Brownell's etc.

Hmm really? I bought it this way about a year ago. Thought it was straight from Ruger like that

Good catch, Olisan. Yes, the two screws close together go in the front.

You will need scope rings that fit the dovetail base - key is that the cross-pins have to be above the rail, unlike Pic or modern Weaver rings whose cross pins fit into slots in the base.

          How old is this 10/22?

I would say close to 10 years most likely, stock is pealing on bottom by mag well.

Found these two types of rings as well tucked away for god knows how long. I'm guessing neither will work?

Those are Ruger scope mounts designed for large revolvers or rifles with the integral Ruger scope base machined in place.

There are plenty of 10/22 aftermarket goodies including Weaver rails.

The factory original scope base is for the old 3/8 inch mounting systems. If you want to use them you'll be glad to know that BKL makes fine mounts for them.

1" Scope rings and scope mounts designed to fit all standard 3/8” rimfire rifles and 11mm airgun dovetail rails. Single or double strap rings, offset, high, unitized, regular or drop-compensated, 6-Screw unitized, and bolt action mounts.
                It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

Fixed the rail, there were only two holes drilled into the top of the receiver that lined up with the first and last holes in the rail.

Called my dad, he ended up having a set of dove tail rings but were too small for the scope

                      Only two holes?
May I ask if there is a prefix in front of the serial number?
Prefix should be something like 110-XXXXXX
If there is no prefix, just numbers, then it's a really early version 1964-1970.

Yeah, those old rings were probably 7/8" but now nearly everything is 1".

Correct Weaver mount for 10/22 is $7.50. Then you can use any weaver rings you want.

My 10/22 came with this factory rail in the box, and I installed it. With the slots up, the curve of the solid (not slotted) face matches the curve of the receiver.

The four screws that came with the rail fit down into the countersunk holes so they don't interfere with anything on top, and their length is correct for the thickness of the receiver so they don't interfere with the action. With the two holes closer together toward the muzzle, all four holes line up.

These are Leupold QRW Low Rings #49853, Matte Black. The rings' crossbars engage the rail's slots perfectly. The scope is a Redfield Battlezone Tac.22 2-7x34.
