Looking at getting an AK 22, Quality?

I discovered AK 22's today and have been looking around on Gunbroker. They look like they would be a cheap, fun, plinking rifle that looks military. I like the looks (and price) of the real Soviet rifles but I don't know if I want to deal with steel surplus ammo or expensive brass case ammo. Does anyone have any experience with AK 22's? Do they feel like they are well made? Pro/ cons? Brands to avoid?

Well PC to start with AK 22's are chambered for 22lr so you won't have to worry about "steel surplus ammo".

Below are two examples of my Wasr's AK style rifles, the one on the left is chambered in 22LR and the one on the right is chambered in 7.62x39.

That's exactly why I'm starting to lean towards a 22lr, cheaper and more places to shoot it. Did you do a conversion kit for your 22 or was it manufactured in 22? Both of your rifles look really nice!

The Wasr-22 comes chambered in 22 LR, good luck on finding them these days.

Wal-Mart Inventory API is your friend.

WikiArms.com uses it, and it enables you to search for ammo in walmart's inventory. It's usually updated midnight so if you have work early in the morning and need some ammo, it's best to call them before heading over. Using the API, I was able to score a couple boxes last week on a friday morning.

I remember at last years shot show that Chiappa was displaying an AK22. I also note that it's not on their website at this time so who knows if it will ever be sold by them. http://www.all4shooters.com/en/speci...chiappa-ak-22/
A good rifle build isn't cheap, but a bad one can be expensive!

My house; like the White House, is NOT a gun free zone!

I think I found it on their website. http://www.chiappafirearms.com/product/2676
It doesn't list a MSRP and the closest dealer I'm seeing on their website is in Reno unfortunately. Google did find a shop in Bakersfield that claims to have Chiappa and be able to do special orders, so there may be hope!

Contact West Morris at Ten Percent Firearms in Taft and see if he can get what you want. Great guy to work with.

If you want a "military" looking .22 I would go with the M&P 15-22. At least they have a pretty good track record haven't read much about .22 AKs.
