    Buying the same scope?

so here's my question to all. Right now I'm running vortex razor hd 5-20 on my 223 AR. I just finished building a 308AR. Obviously I need another scope. If I can find the same amount as I did with the razor do I buy another identical razor for the 308. Or should I try a different scope. Is it best to have 2 of the same or different. I'm assuming they are still about $1350. Mil/mil btw

Personally, I would throw a ton of money on a beefy QD scope mount and a log book to keep track of zero between the two rifles. You have a nice scope that should track accurately and you can buy a mount that will return to zero every time you mount it.

What are you going to use the 308 for? Scope choice should be based more on what type of shooting that you are going to do than the chambering of the rifle.

Both scopes are really just for distance target shooting. With a rare hunting trip

If you enjoy it, I'd get two identical, why the heck not?

I run identicals. If you have the right scope for the job, it's an advantage to be accustomed to the same operation.

              Agree.

If the razor is the top of your budget.... get another one.

I know people with multiple razors, some with multiple PST's some with multiple Bushnells..... and one SOB with multiple Hensoldts...... no.... I'm not jealous.... really.....

Lol. Any better glass at $1450? Razor is nice but don't have anything to compare it with from experience.

I dont think so.... In that budget is the razor or the bushnell elite 3.5-21 G2DMR.. or if you add another 400 the bush elite 4.5-30 XRS....

I think most people rate the razor above the DMR series. The XRS might give it a run... but it's about 400 ish more... and havent heard of any direct comparisons.

AR15 barrels, and Iluvguns could probably tell you the differences.

I think that the only identical scopes that I have are three, 3-9X Leupolds but one of them is silver, two are blue. I also have two, 2.5-8X Leupolds.

Before I got my SWFA 5-20x50 I was running the PST 6-24x50 FFP, I was just going to get another PST, but someone (HK Dave) had some real positive things to say about that SWFA so I gave it a try and glad I did.

I almost bought a second SWFA 5-20x50 because I love the scope, but I ended up getting a Razor just to try something new.

Point I am trying to make is I would have no problem running two identical scopes if you like them... but with all the different options on the market I would have a hard time NOT wanting to try something else which is also good/popular.

I still like each one of those scopes, but for different reasons as they have their own sets of pros/cons.

I would set the .223 up for CQB with a 1-4 Leupold or Vortex (being that it sounds like you prefer Vortex) for shooting distaff of sub 100 yards and put the 5-20 Vortex on your .308 for long distance shooting.

My personal opinion is the Razor 5-20 is overkill for a .223 AR. I'd probably look for a Vortex 1-6x and put the 5-20 on the 308AR.

When using the razor I usually set the magnification to about 15X to about 700 yards. Now if I put that scope on my 308 and get something like the razor 1-6X won't that be limiting myself a lot of the magnification? 6X to 15X is a big difference to me. I've never used a 1-6 so I'm not sure if it would limit me. Thoughts?

So if I set my razor to just 6X on my 5-20 is that identical to what I would see with a 1-6X at full mag?
