Coyote Scope

I've got a 16" Del-Ton kit on its way and so far, nothing but a flat top and a front sight. It's going to be used almost exclusively on coyotes and I don't see any shots beyond 250 yards in my foreseeable future, not in the areas I intend to hunt.
So I need some glass, but I'm really torn. My budget is $200 unless I find something that really turns me on. I'd love to hear from anyone who has actually bagged a few coyotes to hear what really works, not just theory. Right now my prime candidates are a Burris 3-9x, a red dot, a chicom BSA/NcStar/Leapers etc. whiz-bang mil-dot "tactical" scope, or I'll just say to hell with it and get some solid BUIS.

How does the Vortex Diamondback compare to the Burris Fullfield II?, or Bushnell Elite 3200? I too am ready to put a 3x9x40 on my Tikka T3 Lite.

can you also let me know how you would compare the vortex viper line to the leupold VX III series?

The Burris Fullfield II is a nice choice for the price. I have the 4.5-14x for my flat top but if you limit yourself to 250 yards the 3-9x40 with the Ballistic plex reticle will work great. I like the smaller elevation dots of the Ballistic plex much better than the mildots.

Nikon makes a 3-9 with a BDC reticle for 170 I think. You'll need a mount for it or any other scope you get otherwise the eye relief is uncomfortable. If not a mount, the YHM riser/extension rails work great too.

When I say mount I mean something like this:

Also the VX3 optics are probably better, but then they are 50%-100% higher in cost for a similar product.

You can get a nikon monarch 3-9x40 with BDC for $199! Thats a very good buy.

This would be my choice as it brings a $300+ scope into the 200 range.

The monarch is a VERY good scope for the $. As good or better than more expensive Bushy 4200 or Leo VXIII. Close to a Zeiss conquest and is much cheaper. When they blew out the monarch a year ago all the glass snobs over at opticstalk (me included) grabbed them up and were shocked at how good they were for the money.

No sale the best scope for $200 would be a Sightron. But since the Nikon is on sale that is the the best glass for the cash now and its the exact scope you want. 3-9x40 is perfect for yotes and so is the BDC.

I would stay away from leupold. For equal money better glass can be had. I would only consider them if you plan on being very hard on the scope as they have a good warranty (basicly pay for two when you buy it. )

I ended up ordering a Bushnell Elite 3200. No I'm having second thoughts again... dang it!

The 3200 is also a great scope. The 3200 and 4200 have been around for along time and have a very good rep. The optical differences we are talking about here are hardly noticeable when comparing side by side and not noticeable when hunting.

Its not even worth a second thought at this point.
