The Leupold VX-6 1-6x24 is about as close as you can get to a do everything, illuminated reticle 1-6x scope for under a grand, without cutting corners. Nice and light weight too. The reticles are a little simple if you are looking for a fancy mil-dot scope, but a new "3 gun" horseshoe with bdc was just introduced, at a higher price if course.

1-4x vs 1-6x?

Trijicon TR-24 1-4x BAC model. It's very light weight compared to 1-6x scopes. At 1x setting, target acquisition speed is almost comparable to a red dot. Best feature is maintenance free illuminated reticle, no battery needed, and EMP proof.

how about lets say $1800 price point what would you guys say is the best?Comment

I figured if I go the BCM route for my upper instead of the KAC sr15 I will have more money for better optics.Comment

OP mentioned gets deals on Trijicon- Accupoint TR24G is only scoped AR I have and it's great for the reasons mentioned above. I find target acquisition just as fast as w my Eotech at 1x w the 4moa illuminated triangle. Think run around $850 plus you get your discount, and weight isn't too bad, think around 15 oz or so. The clarity and crisp bright green triangle is really great at 1x.
As far as reticle, I do wish it had bit more options on it for holdovers when crank to 4x but w use you can learn to use the 4MOA triangle for some BDC.
That being said, I do like idea of 1-6x or even 1-8x for longer range capability but have not done a lot of research on these- from little research i've done there does seem to be quite a bump in price for quality optic to make that jump in magnification to 6x or 8x.Last edited by timbo399; 06-15-2015, 6:06 PM.Comment

I am not an expert on optics. I got Hi Lux Leatherwood 1-4x CMR for two of my rifles rifles for price/quality considerations and they work fine for me. I read several positive reviews on CMR from contractors that used them around the globe (at least reviews stated so). It is about $400.sigpicComment

I vote for the higher mag scopes. I've got a Bushnell AR optics 1-4x24 on one of my ARs; nothing wrong with it, but I can't really call my shoots too well at anything more than 100 yds. I'll be buying a higher mag scope soon, I'm thinking about a Burris 1.5-8x28 if anyone has any thoughts on that one.NRA life member CRPA life memberComment

Trijicon has new offerings with their Accupoint 1-6 as well as Accupower 1-4xComment

For the money I'd get a US Optics SR-6 it's a 1.5-6 with a starting price of $1250. You can customize it to be exactly what you want which no other manufacturer offers, even down to the color of the scope. They are very well made and very hard to beat considering the quality and options available.
Build one just for fun...

You lose much of the benefit of a first focal plane scope when you have what appears to be a BDC style reticle and 1/4 moa adjustments. In FFP I will personally always have a reticle that matches MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA. Plus Weaver IMHO lacks in quality. How 'bout a go-between... 1-5x24

I'm not sure why you think it lacks quality... in its price class, I don't know what you could consider as better quality. Made in Japan with glass from the LOW factory, its actually a really good scope.
I wouldn't compare it to US Optics, Night Force, Schmidt & Bender, etc... or even Vortex Razor (those all cost 3X or more)... But compared to Vortex Viper, Bushnell Elite, or anything else it its class, quality is not lacking.
there are lots of good reviews all over the net (since I'm no expert, I won't claim my use should be considered)...
Here's one of many (which is a pretty basic review, but a good overview - there are more detailed reviews out there): http://bearingarms.com/weaver-tactic...long-accurate/
Anyway - my initial post was just adding to the "options"... I think based on what the OP is looking for, this is a good option to consider."Kamala is a radical leftist lunatic" ~ Donald J. TrumpComment
