    Corrective shooting glasses

Hey there, so I have dealt with my eye sight for a while now and I went to the new Sac Gun Club to shoot the 50 yard rifle range. Shooting my AR with Aimpoint PRO at 25 yards was leaving the target blurry and my dot set at the second lowest brightness setting was blending with a 5 inch red outline square.

I went into get a vision test last year and was 20/20 in my right eye and 20/200 in my left, which is my dominant eye. I've put off getting glasses or contacts up till now and I am iffy about doing Lasik due to the dry eye thing and weird night vision. Well I gotta get at least shooting glasses cause I couldn't shoot at 50 yards unmagnified (the square looked more like an orange circle than a red square outline on a white backround.

I dunno where to look for corrective shooting glasses so was hoping this sub forum would be a good place to ask.
    See ya mid February!

I have a pair of Oakleys with clear corrective lenses that I use for shooting. The glasses are extremely comfortable and you can swap the lenses out easy if you want sunglasses.

With scopes or red dots you only need normal corrective distance lenses (which by the way are required for you to get a drivers license now anyway, based on what you told us about your left eye). Red dots like Aimpoint and Ultradot in particular are very cool: the dot is actually in the same focal plane as your target.

Iron sights are a different story. For that some of use "occupational bifocals" (with the little near or medium-range lenses on the top instead of on the bottom). I just got my "competition bifocals", and they threw me off for a little while but I'm almost back to my normal accuracy. One challenge there is that the sights are in focus but the targets are blurry beyond 15 yards for me.

Some of the custom safety eyewear suggested by others here is cool, but you can also do like I did and get normal glasses from a normal shop, then get cheaper shooting eye protection meant to fit over your more expensive prescription glasses.

          Decot

Since 1949 Decot has been setting the standards for sports eyewear with interchangeable lenses eliminating smudging and fogging.

I passed the driving vision test a few weeks ago to renew my license so either Im good at cheating or its good enough for that. Both eyes open, I can see good enough to drive without feeling blind (I can easily read street signs, tail lights ect), but it is an issue seeing precisely with only my bad eye. Keep in mind that I wasn't restricted by my Optomologist so nobody seemed to feel I was that bad.

That said, shooting at further distance has been more of a guess by looking at the full target and bisecting it to where I am aiming. It sucks, but its worked okay.

            I want better than okay.

I didnt know that Oakley did prescription stuff and the Five Squared frames look pretty nice. Gonna see where I can get them cheapest.

Check out Decot before you buy because they specialize in Shooting Glasses not just another pair of sunglasses

You must have tested good enough for government work, but the actual DMV standard is:
                * 20/40 with both eyes tested together, and
                * 20/40 in one eye, and at least 20/70 in the other eye.
If your left eye is really 20/200 it is considered legally blind unless corrected. Seriously. See this page:
California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) - apply for a REAL ID, register a vehicle, renew a driver's license, and more.
