    Need help with buying Eotech

I am in a toss up if I want to get the 512 or 552. They are both the same except the 552 is NVG comaptiable and it will go in to 33 feet of water. And then the othe question is: Does anyone have the 3x magnifyer? I am interested in getting the magnifyer with it. Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

    Do you use nvg regularly?
If not, where is your money going to?

If you think you are going to use the magnifier a lot just get a traditional variable power scope.

The magnifier puts the weight up to a point that is comparable to a scope, but FAR less effective than a scope.

Magnifiers have a very limited field of view, especially given their minimal magnification . The only advantage you really get is you still retain the benefit of a true 1x parallax free optic when the magnifier is not deployed.

Outside of that a good 1-4x wins in just about every way.

Not to mention 1-6x scopes are becoming more common and affordable, and offer even more versatility.

If night vision is a possibility for you, I would go with the 552. The G33 is handy (http://www.opticsplanet.com/eotech-g...ide-mount.html) and would help with any kind of ranged shots.

I have a 512 with Primary Arms 3x QD magnifier. I got the set during a promotional sale and basically got the magnifier for free. Glad I did, because I actually really like it. I leave room for it on top of my rifle and I just put in on there when I want to reach out to 100+ quickly and easily without having to rezero anything or even remove my EOTech.

IMO having the set makes for great versatility and considering that there are good cheap magnifiers on the market (PA is like $60 IIRC?) why not just leave yourself the option?

You really cannot compare a holographic sight with a scope, they are two totally different animals with very different benefits - the choice really can't come down to whether or not you want magnification. Realistically, if you have already decided that you want an EOTech (Due to it's own set of benefits), the only question is whether or not to get a magnifier on a QD mount.. and for less than $100, I'd say why not? They also sell 6x and 2-5 variable magnifiers. It takes me literally less than 10 seconds to put on and take off my magnifier and be back to shooting. And a FTS can be even faster. It's a no brainer!

When talking about scopes, you usually don't start to have problems with clarity until higher magnification. Even the lowest budget 1-4 optics look clear enough to hit at their effective range. You really have to worry more about accurate turret tracking and reticle issues with those low dollar scopes - all of which are non-existent on a magnifier. IMO, there is no reason to spend $400+ on a magnifier when PA's budget magnifier has already been proven effective countless times.

As for NVG, as others have said, it's dependent on whether or not you will use it. I don't own any night vision gear and don't reasonable expect to any time soon. It's a non-issue for me.
