nikon m223 or vortex diamondback hd. 3x12

Any thoughts on these to choices? I'm in a position to get either of these scopes for half the price. I'd prefer the m223. But it would be 100 dollars more And I'd still need a mount. I currently have cheap 2x8 power scope that works great but I want to try get more procession out of my ar15(has timney trigger) for longer ranges 400 plus. Both scopes have the bdc. Should I save the 100 buck and put that towards a good Mount? Or save more money and go p223 Also mount options would be great. I'd like one piece mounts.

I'd stay away from the Nikon P223. I can't speak to the M223. The P223 glass was nasty, and I am pretty tolerant when it comes to that. It had a horrible orange-ish tint and wasn't terribly clear. Of course, for the money...

Thanks for the input. I'm leading towards the vortex diamondback HD. And put that 100 on a aero precision ultralight.

I'll confess I'm use a utg cqb bug buster $80.very clear glass And holds zero for years. People will say it crap. But for 80 dollars it is amazing. That s why I want a 12x. So I have a reason for a new scope

For me, it would be the Vortex.

I own a few Vortex products, and am quite satisfied. Viper PST 2.5-10x32, Solo R/T monocular, VMX3 magnifier, VMX-3T magnifier...

Very good intersection of price and performance. Call up both on the phone and see which one gives you the better experience when you ask about the products. Lots of enthusiasts at Vortex.

I don't have the vortex but the glass on my m223 looks good to me! P223 is cheap M223 is much better apparently. Thinking about selling mine for a FFP scope though.

M223 is a much better optic than the p223. Completely different class. The M is a Monarch series.

I have a pair of nikon monarch red dots, a buckmaster 4.5-14, and vortex viper PST, and vortex razor red dot.

Without actually comparing the M223 to the vortex directly, I couldnt give an honest opinion...

I'm happy with both Monarch series and a lot of vortex products. It's really hard to go wrong with a vortex though because of their warranty.

As to mounts... I really like my warne 'skeleton'. Top notch quality at a good price. It is not a quick detach, but mine is on a 'varminter' style AR with scope only anyway.. (the pst 6-24)

                      Scope

Both of the Vortex scopes are much more expensive then the entry level P-223 scope. I have used the P-223 3-9 BDC 600 for over 18 months now with no complaints. Yes, I do some freelance PR/Shooting Event's for Nikon but that just gives me better hands on knowledge of what you are looking at. After 1000's of rounds under my P-223 scope I have not had any problems at all with the scope. It has been to Kansas coyote hunting with me hog hunting in South Texas. Bottom line is this scope will get the job done for you. Yes, you can spend more money, heck you can move up to Nikon's M-223 (made with MONARCH Series glass) for double the $. Is it worth it, absolutely. Can everyone afford that much,no, that's why so many P-223 scopes are sold. They work and they work for a great price.

Postal- Nikon also has a No Fault Policy on their scopes which makes it one of the best out there.

BDC's are for chumps or for grunts shooting at 70 degs, 2.5k ft, 50% humidity with one bullet and one rifle.

They are gimmics for guys that aren't willing to learn how to actually use an optics reticle and/or the turrets.
