    1-4x on AR

So i am looking to get the Vortrex Crossfire II with the V-brite reticle. My rifle now has a red dot which is good in daylight but great at night when used with the weapon light. So I figure I can retain the nighttime advantage of the red dot but gain the daytime advantage of a more precise reticle and 4x magnification.
But as I got ready to order I see there are all kinds of scopes out there in that price range ($250). I just went out back and looked through a 3-9x using the light and it does not compare to the red dot.

So my question is, is there any other scopes you would recommend to serve that purpose.
    Thanks for your input, pacmule

I use these Mark AR MOD 1 1.5-4x20mm.
I like them for everything I can mount a scope on, they are pretty simple to use.

For low power, I've become a fan of the Burris MTAC series. Beautiful crystal clear glass. Not a fan of ballistic reticle and you don't get the same features as the higher ones like zero stops and such but the glass is great.

I'm with Josh3239, I went with the Burris MTAC as well, but the 1.5-6x42 model http://www.opticsplanet.com/burris-m...2-reticle.html

If you want a daylight visible red dot scope with 1-4x, and with a price of around $250, look at Mueller Speed Shot.

I have it, it is basically a red dot with 1-4x magnification. Red dot is day light visible and I have no complains about the glass.

My favorite 1-4x is the Trijicon:

One of the few scopes I have seen where 1x is very close to true 1x.

this is a good scope, but you can get it a couple hundred bucks cheaper than "advertised" in the above post.

                  look here.

I would also look at the SWFA scopes - they are excellent scopes, particularly the HD line.

Have the Mueller on my Mini14, great optic for the price. The 4moa dot is a little big for precise shots at 100 yards, but the Mini isnt really a precision rig.

I have a Bushnell FFP PCL 1-4x - this is the illuminated model with the throw lever. It's my only magnified scope, so I'm not going to comment on the glass quality except to say that all the reviews I read (many) indicated the glass was good for the price.

My sole complaint about the scope is that it really doesn't work as a red dot in daylight. The illumination really isn't bright enough for a bright day, and if it's set to 1x the reticle is small and hard to pick up (FFP).

Only other complaint is with the manual - they do a TERRIBLE job of explaining how to use the BDC reticle. It's not hard to figure out if you have some idea about what the holdovers should be, but if you're a new shooter (and I was when I got the scope) it's easy to use the reticle incorrectly. The reticle itself works well, as long as you know how to use it.

If you want daylight bright illumination, you have to pay for it and that starts around $700 (i.e. Trijicon TR24, Burris XTRII 1-5x). And as you found out, FFP scopes without daylight bright illumination are hard to see. You can't really complain when the scope is that cheap.
As for the reticle, I'm pretty sure it has the same reticle as the Bushnell 1-6.5x so it's the BTR-1 reticle. The subtensions are posted somewhere online and Strelok has this reticle in their database too.

Thanks to all that have responded. The more I look the worse it is. I was set on the crossfire, then saw the Leupold, but it was too expensive. The bushnell PCL started looking really good. Got interested in millet and leatherwood along the way. Today I looked at the Leupold 1.5 x4 SPR with green firedot, again. I really like the more traditional reticle, and the ability to control the dot size. I would probably only use the dot for night shooting anyways. The other bonus is that it weighs nearly half of what many of the others did. Of course it is out of my price range( $400 was cheapest I saw), but I am starting to think I just need to sell something and figure out a way to make it work

I use their SS line and they are excellent. I have a 3-9x42mm FFP and it is an excellent scope.

you may want to also have a look at the weaver tactical products. They offer Mil/mil, zero reset, Japanese glass and are just great scopes. I have two of those also.

I also own 1 trijicon accupoint in 2.5-10x56mm and it is an excellent scope, but is no better than those I suggested above - save the trij dot.
