Practicality vs Cool. Which Optic Shall I Choose?

So I am look for an optic for my AR-15. The two canidates are an Eotech 562 vs an Aimpoint T-1 with 2 MOA.

I have shot both and feel that the Aimpoint provides a more crisp target than the Eotech. However, I enjoy the larger and faster to locate Eotech sight. Target shooting the Aimpoint puts more rounds on center than the Eotech.

Now I dont feel that percise shooting is something I need in my day to day life and the Eotech does look cooler to me.

So TACTICOOL (Eotech) vs Practical (Aimpoint)? What do you guys run and why?

I'd say they are almost equal. I like the Eotech personally.

Well that's the classic debate isn't it?
The ruggedness and battery life of aimpoint are without rival, but the reticle of the Eotech is rather nice.

I have both. If forced to pick I would go Aimpoint. However I wouldn't feel at a disadvantage

When I hear practicality, I think variable 1-4x or 1-6x.

You'll eventually buy both, so its a coin toss.

I have a 551 on a range gun, and a T1 on a truck gun. Battery life was the decision for the truck gun. The finer 1 moa reticle the decision for the range gun.

I have used the above mentioned optics and for more accuracy, the Aimpoints faster acquisition and rounds on target, the Eotech, but IMO the best compact optic right now is the 1.5 ACOG

This has become my favorite of all time dot optic.

Next on my list is the Trijicon SRS mainly for the almost infine battery life and the lens size.

I would hold off for the Aimpoint T2 Micro over the T1, I really like the T series over all other aimpoints. But with that said I still shoot better and faster with the Eotech.

I recommend this too, if you want a red dot, get a Mueller Speed Shot 1-4x. It is a red dot/scope combo optic with 1-4x variable zoom. Unlike many other illuminated scope, the Mueller Speed Shot red dot is daylight visible.

This is hard for most shooters since they dont just rent optics and you typically have to buy them to try them. But with that said if you are ever in the LA area I would be find with letting check out the various optic setups I have.

IF you like the eotech for everything better than the aimpoint EXCEPT trying ot make groups at 100 yards, get the eotech.

When you want to group with it, find a better target. Black circle on white makes this game easy. You just couldn't group well with it compared to the aimpoint because the target you were using was better suited to concentrically lining up a 2moa dot over the black than a whatever-dot-size-the-eotech-has.

So that's my vote. Eotech plus change your tagets for shooting groups.

Can't use EOTechs because of my astigmatism. The tiny dots that comprise the hologram 'dance' on me, & I can't hit the broad side of a barn. From the INSIDE.
