hi i have a remington 30/06 model 742 i put on a one piece mount for a loupold vari x two scope went to the range the gun was shooting high with the adjustment on the scope all the way down. so i took it to a gunsmith he said he could build a base under the mount to bring the front up. three weeks later picked up the gun went to the range, now the gun is shooting low with the adjustment all the way up. have not talked to the gunsmith yet, was trying to go deer hunting running out of time. any help would be helpful. thank you

Sounds like the guy is not much of a Gunsmith.
If he told you was was building something to bring the scope up he's lying, a lead shim is what's often used.
You had him do the installation and he didn't even bother to bore site the rifle? Hope he didn't charge you "to build a base".Comment

If it is a 1 piece mount make sure its pointed the right way (so that your 20MOA base is adding not subtracting).Comment
