    Recommend Rings For Remy 700

What are good rings to use to mount a Leupold VX6 to a Remington 700 VPS Varmint? Am I right to assume the I need to use 1"? I want to mount directly to the rifle and not use a rail system.
    Thanks guys

Why do you not want to use a rail system? Saving money maybe but the rail is the way to go. Get a good quality Badger or TPS 20 moa taper rail and a equal quality rings that allow your scope to clear the barrel. The lower the better btw. Do what you like but keep in mind the rail/rings/optics should be more money than the rifle.

Read this thread - it may (or may not) help: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s....php?t=1017868

Also, I ordered medium size rings.

Get a rail. There's just too much chance for misalignment with a two piece base.

Vortex Precision are re-badged Seekins. Great precision rings with a budget in mind.

You could use a game reaper, it's one piece and mounts directly to the action.

Buy precision machined scope mounts for Remington rifles. Browse for the best scope mounts for Remington 700, 783, Model 7, 7400, 7600, 7615,750, 770,710,715, 742, 760, 597, Shotguns & Remington Genesis.

A one piece rail might interfere with loading.
Any misalignment on two piece (rails can have it too) can be corrected with lapping.

I'm thinking I'll go with the Leupold dual dovetail 2-piece setup. Anybody use this? Its not cheap, but it matches my scope and is made for the 700.

I would start with a Nightforce rail and use Nightforce rings:

I went with a low dnz reaper mount rings combo. I'm very happy with it. I have a nikon monarch 3 4-16 42mm. No issues with clearance
