I would like input from Calgunners who have no color/white dot etc on the front sight of their self defense/CCW pistols. I read Front Sight in AZ material recommending that blacking out or purchasing sights with no color improves accuracy. I was wondering who may have done this set up on their pistol and how effective it truly is. Thanks

Blacking Out SD Pistol Front Sight

To me all black sights are good for target/bulls eye shooting but for speed I think having a visible dot is better. Having a dot of some kind makes it easier/faster for my eyes to catch the front sight. For CCW defensive shooting you are focusing on how to quickly put shots center mass rather than shooting smaller groups.I would like input from Calgunners who have no color/white dot etc on the front sight of their self defense/CCW pistols. Just my 2 cents. -
I like having a dot on the front sight since it helps me focus on it better. The best combo for me is a bright front sight with a plain serrated rear sight (Ameriglo Hackathorn).Originally posted by G. Used to do this for my target pistols but for other handgun work I like 3 dot.
BTW in the old days I used a carbide lantern did a great job and wiped right off, if you had a metal 35MM film can put a few carbide rocks in the can put a small hole in the lid, spit into the can on the carbide screw lid on, light the carbide gas coming out of the hole, blacken the sight, blow the flame out. Works for some people. Remember equal height equal light is all you need. Some people get hung up on aligning the dots. When they have an issue then a sharpie over the dot usually fixes it.
It's about target acquisition in a second under stress in self defense. Some people instead of getting a good sight picture are worried more about the dots and aren't pulling the trigger in time when if they were just looking at black iron would have pulled the trigger and been inside the thoracic cavity.
Some sights are overdone. I don't care much for the fiber optic front in my XDs. Too bright outside in daylight and is distracting from lining up my irons. Going to switch to Trijicon's like in my full size. I can easily ignore the dots but they are plenty bright enough and perfect to use in low light situations.
