    nightforce

Recently got a nightforce 8x32x56. I got it mounted and I'm excited to shoot some match ammo and see what types of groups I can do. Hope this weather and work clear up.

What's it mounted on? What distance do you plan to shoot?

It's a savage action. 300 WM. Imma see if I could post a picture... my pops had it made a while back 4-5 years. Don't know much about it, but it has a 32" heavy barrel. It's been in my safe and he never used it so I asked, bought some match ammo and a scope. I've been doing a lot of research for long range. Hoping to reach out to 1000 but I also need some learning.

32'' is quite the barrel. You may want to check around at some of the reloading forum posts. That is an excellent choice for playing with some powders to make sure you get the most out of it.

NXS are good solid scopes and a good value. The downside is that you're getting less than 18mils of available elevation to work with, which is pretty sub-standard these days. Even with a good canted mount you're going to run out of elevation....unless of course you're just going to shoot targets at 300m.

Great scope. You're going to love it. Get a 30 or 40 MOA base which will help you at 1000 yards. I've got a 40 MOA base on a Nightforce BEAST, but it has more elevation than the 8-32x56.

It's a blast! 300 win mag kicks butt too. You're really going to enjoy it.

                          DUDE.

                          DO NOT LAP THE NIGHTFORCE.

If you have quality rings (such as NF, Badger, or Sphur) and a quality base that ensures the rings are perfectly parallel to each other there is no reason to touch or remove material from either the scope or rings.

With 18mil in a 32" 300WM, he'll get as far as most will shoot. But, yeah I think of that 8-32 NSX as more of a bench rest scope. NF seems to be the darling of scopes. They are decent and strong, but I haven't really understood the overwhelming appeal.

Thanks for the info patriot man. The stalk is weighted seems to be similar to sand bag material. I got some learning to do at this point the gun and scope can out shoot the shooter.
